I just go there cause it's cheap.. and there is no contract.

Jord@n
I go to Jamie Platz YMCA. I love it there and prefer it over the other YMCA's I've been to. I'm a big fan of the layout, the track and the pool!

I live right beside that and never been in it, Its good eh?

Jord@n
I like it, been going for a few months now and I like it more then the other gyms I've been to. I've only been to 2 or 3 gyms in my life though. If you wanna go sometime and check it out just let me know, it's only $4.00 if you go with someone with a membership and you can see if you like it.

I used to go to that gym. But my locker got broken into twice (First time they stole money out of my wallet, then the second time they stole my $700 watch)

After this happened to me twice, I said that was enough and switched gyms. I now go to the SouthSide Club Fit. I like it there better for a number of reasons;

- They have a Steam Room (so does the YMCA, BUT you need to be a plus member...wtf is up with that? :dunno: )

-This is the main thing...they are open 24 Hours. I hated going to the YMCA and having to make sure I was done my work out by 9:45 or so. Closing at 10pm was a big problem for me.

Good points. I agree with them both and wish I could have access to a Steam Room without a plus membership. Also 24/7 would be sweet, numerous times it's like 930 and I don't bother going cause they are closing. On the other side though, Club Fit doesn't have a track (i hate machines) and they don't have a swimming pool.

I go to the Club Fit on St. Albert Trail. I also go to the World Health on 137 ave as well once and a while as we got a free membership there.

But otherwise I go to Kinsmen when I'm in Edmonton.

Z3r03rr0r
Millenium Place in Sherwood Park for me. It's close to home has all the ammenities you guys seem to want ie: track steam room, pool, and piles of weights and machines. Plus it's cheap 32 a month and I get access to the other pool and gym in sherwood park as well. It's not 24/7 but I find 5:30am to 11:00pm is a big enough window for me

This is a good place. Even though I have a membership to Club Fit, I tend to go there often as well. My GF lives out of town, and when she comes to Edmonton, she likes to swim when I work out. So we go there, unlike the YMCA, they have a lap pool available all day.

The YMCA has lanes open all day everyday too. :dunno: If I was closer to Sherwood I'd be there.

I used to Train at Millenium, but it's just WAAAYYY too busy at the times I go. Busiest gym i've ever seen.

From what I remember, they only had open lane swimming at certain hours. Maybe this has changed.

It must have changed... They have public swim and lessons at certain hours and the amount of lanes open for lane swimming varies, but there is always one or two lanes open and very rarely is there too many people to swim. I think they close at like 8:45 on Sat and/or Sun though...kinda early...

Don't bring nice stuff to the gym? Especially if you gonna put some wanky lock on your locker? Also.. every time i've tried going late to a gym like WHC south.. it's been closed.. funny how the sign said 24/7 ? :dunno:

Yea after the second time my locker got broken into, I decided that was enough and switched gyms. I think its completely insane if I have to leave my wallet, cash, watch, cell phone, etc, etc at home or in the car just so I can go to the gym without risk of loosing it.

I had a Master Heavy Duty lock on my locker. It was the black one that has the sides that come up, its supposed to help prevent cutters from being able to cut the lock. Obviously it didn't work.

Anyways, since I switched gyms, everything has been fine.

Yea i get what your saying.. i just don't bring anything to the gym with me anymore.. lock or no lock.. people are pieces of shit... they will steal anything.. from anywhere. I don't really like all these damn kids and families at the ymca.. but as i said before.. there is no contract and it's cheap. Unlike WHC or Club fit.. where you have to sign some crappy contract. I dunno about you guys.. but honestly after working from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.. i'm pretty dead tired.. only catching the gym on saturdays and sundays.. even then.. i have a horrible time trying to find someone to go with. Everyone likes being fat i suppose.

I used to go to the YMCA because it was cheap and I didn't have a contract. Then, in January of this year, I get a statement and my monthly fee went up to over $50 a month. I thought that was crazy.

I went to Club Fit and at the time they had a no contract promo going on. So I'm not on a contract and I only pay $34 a month.

As for being dead tired after work...last summer I would work concrete from 7am - 7pm, go home eat/shower and then go to the gym for an hour. The guys at work thought I was crazy lol

when I was in Edmonton I went to the WHC centre club. by far the nicest club for the price and extras.

I was paying $45 a month and it did the trick. lots of equipment, great weights, always clean, towel service and heated underground parking -$1 for all day Saturday and free on Sundays. $2 after 6. *rarely* busy, never really have to wait for a piece of equipment and I can't stress enough how clean that place is.

you should see the gyms in Germany. fuck. I'm paying €80 a month and it's the biggest piece of shit gym. The better gyms are €120 and up a month. you can find cheaper but you get what you pay for. we have like 3 single benches for dumbbell presses, shitty assed weights, shitty assed barbells, no towel service, it's dirty (no cleaning staff) and it's pretty run down... and I was shopping around too! Not like I took the first place that I came across. I don't think I'll be here much longer and suck up the cost and go to a nicer club.

I'm a civilian and I still use the base. Great facility! It's got a pool, weight gym, olympic lifting area, bouldering wall, massive indoor track, punching bags and a basketball gym. Plus it's empty in the evenings and it only costs like 270/year.

omniman69
definitely worth the money spent for the time available on the machines eh?.

Yep, although I don't use too many machines it's just nice to have a lot of space.

So you live in Germany now?

If its so expensive for a shit gym, I would suggest maybe just buying a few pieces of equipment and work out in your house ( if you have the space that is) and also, there are soooo many exercises you can do with no weights! Just get a bit creative!

Now that I'm back in Ed, I go to WHC and I'm mainly at the West End location (3 minute drive from home) or southside when my friends want to work out. I'm on a 1 year contract and $50 a month which is worthwhile to me considering I go 3-4 times a week.
Its nice working out around midnight cause I usually get the whole gym to myself. haha.

tho_chi
For me its the Derrick Club on the Southside, since I'm a member there the gym is just including in the price of the membership and it has all new equipment and is rarely busy. Nice place to get your workout done without having many dissruptions or waiting

chewy
The Derrick club is real pricey but the locker rooms to the machines to the badminton courts is first class.

tho_chi
ya the new locker rooms are pretty sweet, can't complain at all.
