Hey guys... today i saw an evolution 8 on calgary trail. It had an alberta plate. at first i thought it was a lancer transformed into something that looked like evo... BUT i took a close look at it cuz i couldnt believe what i saw! At first i passed him and took a look at the front. It had a FMIC that came stock with the Evo-s. Then i let him pass me... the exhoust was from stock evo. Both headlights and taillights were a bit different from regular lancers. The rims were evo stock ones. Im sure it was not a regular lancer cuz you could tell the car was built with quality... itys like comparing Neon and SRT-4 - the look kinda the same but the way they are made you can tell one is shit and the other is much better.... HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE??????
I didnt think you could register these cars here!
btw the car was silver.. any1 else seen it around? |

It's not possible, you can't register it. Which leaves us with only one conclusion.
You can look as closely as you want, it can look as much like an evo as you want it to.......but it's not an evo. |

I heard that a couple of them slipped through the cracks and were allowed to be registered in Canada. They quickly found that the Evo and the Lancer are 2 different cars and stopped allowing the Evo up here. So its quite possible you saw one.

I think there are 7 evos in Canada that slipped in before people realized that they weren't just any lancer.

It's a registered EVO 8 in Calgary. There's two of 'em there, a white one and a silver one.
They slipped through before RIV noticed.
Apparently, the guy has been offered a LOT of money for the car, but hasn't folded yet. |

No way. If the government fucks up and can't get it's shit together, too bad for them.
That's like saying if the 25 year JDM ban goes through, then all the cars have to be shipped back. |

Except we aren't talking about thousands of cars, we're talking about 7.
The way I see it, there's 2 possibilities.
1) The government never said Evo's weren't allowed until after these 7 were registered or
2) The government said "No evo's" but someone else fucked up.
In scenario #1, the owner shouldn't be out of pocket. The government should pay them back whatever they're out of pocket after they ship it back and sell it.
In scenario #2, the owners should be SOL. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes, but you were aware they weren't allowed.
My reasoning is simple: why weren't Evo's allowed in Canada? From everything I've heard, it's cause they failed to meet safety standards even more than the Lancer did. If they're that unsafe, they shouldn't be on the roads. |

Wow, look at the bullshit being thrown here. I've always thought your posts were based on some sort of knowledge. You've definately proved otherwise.
Yes there's a few Evo's here legally. They were brought in before they were banned for having the intercooler piping in the bumper crush under low velocity collisions. So I don't see how that has anything to do with the safety issues you keep bringing up.:dunno: It's because of the cost of repair in low speed collisions. Canada's is tighter than most places. |

| Same reason why we didn't get SRT4's for a year, as well as Pontiac GTO's. |

I've got the white EVO 8 from Calgary and the Silver one you spotted was Jorge's from Calgary( plate is a giveaway)....
They are not UNSAFE to drive in Canada....it was the amount of $$ required to fix a slow front end collision that stopped Mitsu from bringing them into Canada.......( i.e. $$ to fix the FMIC)
There are 15 of us in Canada that own an EVO 8....all the benefit of a 3 week window where Transport Canada didn't know the difference between the VIII and a ralliart....hence, they were allowed into the country. They are registered as EVO VIII's as well and insured as such.....
They all have tags from RIV and letter's to back them up.....so they'll never get booted from the country (but no more will be allowed in - that's the kicker...these all got in before the government said no more)....
With the EVo X coming out ( and by this time next year, they'll be all over the place), will the value drop? Of course they will....it's a car. But, given it's rarity (and popularity with the rally crowd), if any of these VIII's are ever for sale, move on it quickly. I got mine because everyone else was saying they weren't legal, when in fact 15 of them are.....I flew out and drove it home the next day. That silver one, believe it or not, was up for sale for 6 months for the same reason....until a knowledgable buyer determined it was legit.
Hope to see ya' on the road..... |

I say what my posts are based on.....and I plainly said "from what I've heard". I've never had any desire to have an Evo so I've never researched it.
So excuuuse me for being incorrect. Didn't realize the asshole patrol came out and decided to invalidate anything you've ever said by claiming their posts aren't based on any sort of knowledge once someone makes an incorrect statement. |

All that's wrong with what I said is that I'm not "current" on my EVO history. 7 cars slipped by RIV and I wasn't aware, and suddently that makes you think everything I've ever said is based on pure speculation and not on any form of knowledge at all?

Sounds good to me. That's my point. You shouldn't be posting information unless you know for a fact or have something fact based to support it. So you wont ever find me posting something like that, because I will only post things I know for a fact, or things I've researched myself. |

Yeah, and you'll never get a fact wrong like some car you don't give a shit about that you know for a FACT isn't allowed to be imported had a few slip by initially? People get facts wrong all the time. Doctors will run several thousand-dollar tests, tell you have cancer, cut you open and every now and then go "woops, nothing here, guess we were wrong."
"Facts" are rarely 100%. There's always room for error. If you're perfect, that's great. My point is I was wrong, I admitted I was wrong, and you feel the need to claim all my posts must be invalid.
Do you have any clue how many "facts" I've corrected on these forums? Sorry I got one wrong. I can accept that I'm not perfect, don't know everything and make mistakes. If you can't accept that part of me, best shove me on ignore or bypass everything I say, because I can guarantee you I WILL be wrong again sometime in the future. And I can guarantee you that so will you, no matter how careful you try to be. |

And I'm not sensitive, nor do I care. I'm not tired but I have to work in the AM, I have nothing better to do than hang out on these forums until I get tired. And I just figured I'd point out how big an ass you're statement made you.
I'm not 14, I don't strive for acceptance. I'm misanthropic. For the most part, I detest people. All people. And I have no need or desire to make more or new friends, nor do I have any need to feel accepted or loved by them. You could come right out and say "Heavy, I hate your guts, you're a worthless peice of shit", and I really wouldn't care.
Seriously, my mom told me I'm cool, what more do I need?
People send me PM's all the time asking why I'm so abrupt and argumentative, and I usually tell them: I don't give a shit if people here like me. There's a VERY slim chance I'll ever go out to a meet, there's a very slim chance I'll meet any of you assclowns, this forum gives me a way to spend time when I'd otherwise be bored.
But sure, go with sensitive and throw in upset or hurt if you want too. Heck, say you made me cry if you want. I was heartbroken. I threw myself onto my bed and cried out "Oh noes! Somebody doesn't like me! Why don't you think I'm cool?!?!" I'm a mess. I'll never recover. |

My buddy who lives in Ontario has an Evo 8. He obtained it from the Winnepeg Mitsubishi dealership before they were put into the list of cars that cannot be imported.
From what he knows, there are a handful of legal Evo 8's in the country, but at this point in time, no more can be purchased and legally brought across the border. |

Sorry, should have clarified that last sentence. It was ordered in from Minnesota, and arrived in Winnipeg. So I guess in a sense they never had it per se at the dealership.
I'm not sure how much he paid for it actually, my guess is 45k and above. |

There are people who knock the EVO, I have found it is ussualy those who don't drive one. Being a performance driving instructor on Tarmac and gravel, I have driven everything from STIs to M3s at the limit and I can honestly say the EVo is the best bang for your dollar.
My favourite: the Porsche 997, but the price tag is not remotely in the same league.
Also, after 20 plus years of pro-rally competition in Canada and abroad, I have enjoyed several cars, my 1982 Open class 200HP RX7 was one of the best but not even in he same league as he EVO, of course we are talking 20 years of different technology.
There are those who say the EVO is nothing special because "you can go to the States and see lots of them:".... well, you can also go to Japan and see lots of 2003 Skylines GTR... We live in Canada, what is their point?.. don't know.
There are those who say the Evo 8 will lose its value once the Evo X comes in next March... maybe, but some people don't need to sell what they have and there will still be only a hand full of Evo VIII until 2018, that alone has always been the factor that kept rare cars expensive (and there is serious talk about changing the 15 year rule to 25) If anyone is not sure, bring a 2000 model EVO 6 here and see what you get for it.
The bottom line is: enjoy what you drive, drive what you like and respect what you don't... you never know who knows something you don't and who will kick your ass next. :D

Number 1 above, is what happened, but these EVOs are grandfathered so they are not going anywhere. The rest are actualy wrong.
Transport Canada has a rule which states that a vehicle should have no more than $1000 damage when hiting an object at 8 Miles/hr, The USA has this same rule but at 5 Miles/hr; the Evo passes at 5 but not at 8 because the front mounted intercooler gets damaged and it is over the $1000 to repair it. This does not make the car unsafe. The Neon SRT has the same problem but Chrysler got around it by pricing their intercoolers really cheap and taking a hit with them ( I am sure it is built in the price you pay originaly for the car) Mitsubishi on the other hand did not do this because all of the EVO producction allocated for North America was already being sold easily in the USA.
The RIV put the EVO on the non-alowable list a few months too late in the game in 2003 so a few cars slipped in, these are grandfathered.
I have dealt with Transport Canada and the RIV more than once, even my Celica Rally car is from the USA and they are not the sinister group some make them out to be, they try to please everyone as well as they can considering they have to deal with many safety issues which some times are very laxed in other coutries.
Anyone who thinks an EVO is unsafe should have their head examined, if there is anything unsafe here is all the right hand drive cars that are running around. I now many will not like to hear this (including me, I love so many Japanese cars that are RHD) but one of these days we are going to have someone die on a two lane hiway trying to pass a semi and not having enough vision on his left side until he is too far into the passing lane. This is what I call unsafe.
As I said before; we all love our cars, so lets enjoy them and stop trying to point out bad things about cars you don't even own, some people have bigger skeletons in their closet than what any EVO owner will ever have.:D
By the way, talking about EVO North American production I heard a rumor from a good source that told me that the whole EVO X North American production for the first 3 months (about 800 cars) will come first to Canada in March and the USA will not get any until June, how about them apples? I hope it is true. |

Yeah that FMIC thing is the reason that sounds right about the evo but when you call RIV Canada, which I have done in the past and it went something like this.
Me: ....Why is Mitsubishi Evo 8 not allowed in Canada?
RIV: ...Let me look sir.
Me: Ok, thanks.
(minute or so passes)
RIV: Mitsubishi Evo 8 is not allowed in Canada because it does not meet Canadian safety standards. It's stracturally unsafe.
Me: Ok, do you have more information on what exactly causes this vehicle to be stracturally unsafe to be inadmissable in Canada?
RIV: That is all the information I have.
Me:  Can the vehicle be modified to meet the Canadian safety standards before bringing it to Canada?
RIV: No modification done to this vehicle will make it admissable in Canada.
Me: Ok, thanks for your help.
So yeah, that's how that went. They just give you a basic answer without any real explanation. |

I just saw a wannabe Evo on Jasper Ave. Black with some of the ugliest chrome wheels ever to adorn a Lancer ... and that's saying a lot because there are quite a few Lancer drivers with terrible taste.
It had a big FMIC and the driver was revving his engine like a moron as he came to a stop. I just looked at him and shook my head as I walked across the crosswalk in front of him. I can't say for sure, but I think he started crying.

It had a big FMIC and the driver was revving his engine like a moron as he came to a stop. I just looked at him and shook my head as I walked across the crosswalk in front of him. I can't say for sure, but I think he started crying.
Scratch that, he definitely started crying at my disapproval.:read:

nobody likes cars you have to Pay twice the amount to be half as fast and twice as ugly though. Its like paying for an ugly hooker and then sleeping with her brother. |

| What's the point in offering the few guys that own the Evo's money to buy the car off of them? After you bought it off them would you be able to register it yourself as now they are on the lists of restricted cars? Or would the fact the were here before that make it possible to register. How could you even prove that. |

I don't see why not... the car is registered and insured, so technically its legal. It passed the out of province inspection and everything.
Oh. And some1 brought this thread back cuz they saw sum1 that just bought one... and he saw it in a parking lot so i imagine that it was registered.. so.. i guess its possible to buy one of those evos and register it. |

I know. But it's in Calgary. So if you had a hookup, you can drive an EVO IX in Canada... |

I know the asian guy who owns that car and he got EZ to modify it up to look like an EVO8 for a car show a few years ago and he kept going with it. It has rear overfenders and a front evo8 conversion. It has the Ralliart sohc engine with a GTRS turbo on it running on a SAFCII. I wish someone would take the time to do something right in this town, even the wheels are rotas with SSR stickers

You may know of a similar car, but that picture above your post clearly shows the IN TRANSIT pass in the front windshield.....this is a real EVO 8 that JUST recently came from out east..... |

edit: The first picture plain and simple is an evo, and yes it is here in edmonton.

so the IN TRANSIT means he does not have registration ...... poor guy spent all his money making his car look fancy and he cant afford to drive it..... lame .....
I know the guy and it is just an OZ Rally ..... he usually posts on here so I will get him to come on to clear this up rather than you guys follow him and take pictures of his car like stalkers |

lol damn dude, you are dumb. We know the guy too(well the guy who actually owns the evo not the lame knockoff) and sorry to tell you it's an EVO. He purchased it from out east, what part dont you get. It has already been registered in canada it grey marketed in when they werent on the RIV list of bans yet. So he will easily be anle to re register it, and no he didnt fancy up a plain old lancer for no reason. For the record I wont say who owns it but he posts as well maybe just not here or maybe he does. Maybe he is posting in this very thread, and again maybe not :)
