What do you think the chances of something liket his are:
Japan's emission laws are going through the roof, driving their performance cars out of the country. To where? All around the world of course.
Canada has some great emissions laws, but nothing too crazy allowing cars to roam freely here!
Do you think within the coming years, Canada's tuner scene may see a huge increase in demands and popularity due to something like this?

| naw, Canada will just jump off the same emissions bridge all the other countries have, and then fossil-fuelled cars will become illegal to own and considered as weapons of mass destruction |

They slip the inspector an extra $50 and they will pass any car, anytime.
So much for 'tight' emissions controls in Cali. |

Law enforcement on stuff like that is crazy down there. Sure you can get away with it at first, but if you get pulled over, your car is going to be towed.

... by a rookie cop. A real cop would give you the warning, "If I see it on here again" because the damage is already done by that time. Towing your car won't fix what it's already done.
As for my point with Japan, they have most of the cars the tuner scene wants and loves, and therefore with stricter laws forcing their cars away, they would be the largest contributer I'm saying. Where as Cali already only has cars, most of the cool ones I'd suggest came from over seas.

So what you're saying is, a real cop would just give you a warning for breaking the law? By towing the car, it forces you to have to pay a tow truck fee, a impound fee, etc, etc. Obviously they can't stop everyone from doing illegal mods to their cars, but they can make you pay for it by hitting you with large fines and fee's.

The cops job is to prevent crime. If you are driving down the road with blue smoke coming out of your car, it should be towed. But when it is one ccu or whatever over the limit, they should not tow you, they should simply give you a warning, and have you prove that you've fixed it. THAT is what I'm saying.
The police have no desire to force you to pay a tow truck or any such thing. Nazi's are in Germany not here.

I'm talking about down in California with emission laws, not Alberta.
Obviously you haven't been to Cali and seen just how strict they really are on this type of stuff.

I've been through Cali once in my car, with a loud exhaust, that all you could smell was rich gas. Lots of cops, and I never got a second look. I guess downtown LA is different than all the places I was?
Either way, the law is the law, and that was my point. Japan is where the most interest seems to be for the tuner industry, and should they all be banned, where would they end up? That's the main question :)

| So long as you aren't driving like an asshat or hanging around places you shouldn't be down there then you should be fine. We were driving a modified Silvia down there and never once got pulled over despite several cops seeing it was right hand drive.:dunno: |

| Japanese people rely mostly on public transportation, therefore the cars are driven less. They also have bi-annual car inspection or Sha-ken as it is called in Japan, and determines whether it is cost effective for a person to keep his/her vehicle |
