im looking to buy one of these cars are the reliable cars do they have any common problem anyone on the forum own one please provide me with some info

Biggest problem with the gtir seems to be the tranny. But im sure if your not launching the hell out of the thing it would hold up fine.

kiel
im sure if change the fluid and keep it maintained well then it will hold up

Changing the fliud isn't going to help it from shattering on the inside when you launch the car really hard.

R.K.

no kidding, its a weak tranny, just like the fwd sr20 tranny is. Add AWD to the mix and you now have some major issues. So either dont abuse it, and dont do earth shattering launches, Or shell out some cash, and have it rebuilt with stronger gears or cryo treat them.

kiel
yea thats just like any car no cars like being launched hard all the time things will go wrong

mx73someday
Take care of them and they should be nice to you. I've driven a handful of them over the past year, some pretty regularly and I never experienced any problems with them.

kiel
christain do you have any pulsars in stock?

mx73someday
Only the Beta version from our front page.

kiel
ahhh yea i was just looking for a stock model and mod it my self

kiel
if this car has weak transmission then i dont think it would be good to get i just wanted it for a fun little car to rip around in but now that hear this i dont think i would get one now plus they arnt even very nice looking

mx73someday
The transmission isn't really as weak as people say, if you are abusing your car daily and drag launching, then you can expect it to break eventually. I've heard engine importers who import the SR20 from GTi-R's tend to throw out the Pulsar transmissions, so if you have the right connection you could get one for cheap.

kiel
how are they for parts like brake pads and oil filters little things like that?

mx73someday
For brakes and suspension, nearly all of that you have to special order through Nissan or order it directly from Japan. The wait through Nissan is usually 3-6 weeks depending on them, but it is just as affordable as if you were at a dealership in Japan.

Oil filters and a lot of the engine parts can be sourced locally with little wait times.

thanks for the help guys ive narrowed my choice down to fewer cars now i want a car that was made in canada so that parts are easier to get im either gonna get a silvia, 130sx or a 1992 prelude with h22a, i am currently selling my jdm 3rd gen prelude check it out.

Same stock brakes as the Nissan NX2000, btw, so they shouldn't be too hard to get a hold of.

I redid my brakes, everything was easy to find except the rear rotors, they need a 10mm spacer or something.
My alternator was easy to find, go to Joes Alternator and he should have 7 brand new ones in his shop.
Right now I'm looking for rear wheel bearings cause 1 of mine is shot. NAPA has 6 in Edmonton cause they're from 91-00 Sentras and 200sx's.

The only thing worth worrying about is the body parts and the tranny parts. But there are enough trannys in Canada that I don't thin kit's such a big deal.

I had no problem with mine. Great cars, extremely fun and are full of potential. Only draw back, as the guy above me said, is sourcing body parts. Took me like 3 weeks to get a rear side window.
