NAIT’s Autobody Repair & Automotive Service Technician program went up against SAIT for the 2007 Chevrolet Tuner Cup Challenge. Each team was provided $7,500 of GM accessories and $5,000 for customizations. Both cars were displayed at various car shows (you may have seen them), where people could vote for their favorite. The NAIT car claimed the victory with a margin of almost 2:1.
The NAIT car also took third place in its category at Powerama held Apr. 20-22. We’re very proud of our Autobody Repair & Automotive Service Technician program.
The sporty, one of a kind car gets attention wherever it goes. Dealers that displayed the car in their showrooms commented on how it was the first thing many people noticed when they walked in. A photo gallery tracking the progress is now available, and we invite you to post your comments. http://www.flickr.com/photos/nait/s...57600278928833/
The car is now in a live auction on e-Bay from May 30 – Jun 8.

The students were NOT allowed to mess with the suspension AT ALL..... part of the rules for the challenge, and it's NON-SC... and IIRC it WAS the LT trim package.
I was there last friday.. I should have popped the hood and taken some pics... Maybe tomorrow...
If the Cobalt had have been raffled off like the Aveo was, then I could say that it would be supporting the students, but this car will most likely sit collecting dust on e-bay, supporting nobody, because no one wants to spend $25k on a $14k car.
I hope for the students sake it sells..... |

| The car is in fact an LS. |

Oh I know! it looks like a lumber wagon riding that high. I'm sure the lucky buyer will fix the suspension as soon as they take possession of it.
It looked even worse with the 16's on it, poor thing looked like it was waiting for a flood or something, hence why they went to the 18" wheels. Mind you, at it's current ride height, it can handle Edmonton's roads without a problem   |

Let me get this straight... they weren't allowed to put lowering springs on.. but they were allowed to rip the whole front suspension, K members and everything out to paint the car?

These were the rules:
"Mechanical modifications will be limited to intake, the throttle body and catalytic converter back only. No modifications to suspension, steering, brakes, engine, etc. will be permitted.
Body modifications to be bolt-on or adhesive only (no welding).
Stereo upgrades limited to $2,000."
The bill of sale was $16,089.74. Plus $7,500 in GM parts + $5,000 + labour. |

Soooo the goal was to build the best rice mobile?
Was this an autobody class or the mechanics class? If autobody I could kinda see it... |
|
|
| dibegin |
Yes, it was the autobody program. They couldn't modify those components because it would have voided the warranty. The idea is that if someone was interested in car modifications, the outside is pretty much done, and the buyer could further modify (the areas that couldn't be done during the competition) to his/her liking.
NOTE - The auction ends on Jun. 9, not Jun. 8. Sorry for the confusion. |
