oh god u actually 4 banger turboed a stang lol

ChromeDragon
That was a factory optional engine in the Mustang was it not?

mikeylikesit
yea the 4cyl turbo was an option in the mid 80's.. pretty rare cars. not many around.

fugumerkur
Yeah. some 1980's had them, there was also a Gt 350 edition, came with either a HIpo V8 or the 4 cyl turbo, Mustang SVO was the 4 cylinder turbo with 4 wheel discs, 16" wheels, locking rear diff and koni adjustables from the factory and a hurst shift linkage !

The Mercury Capri in the Rs version came with the non intercooled 4 cylinder turbo as well.

Hey, at least I didn't turbo a Pinto or Mustang II

as it sits now (if it will run this weekend) the setup is worth 200 horse to start.:fingersx:

sweet! my first car was an i4 capri (non turbo)

It's funny you say that, because that engine started life in the Pinto.

SVO was pretty much a TurboCoupe with a Pony body. But it's not the first time the turbo-4 was seen in the Mustang. You could get the carbed version (or a 302) in the '79 Pace Car Mustang.

fugumerkur
That is true! even some early 80's stangs got the torquey inline6

Though the mustang had some up's compared to the turbo coupes. the Hurst shift linkage, The T3 Garrett turbo, both had Fuel select switches so you could run regular in a pinch dropping you to 10psi instead of the 14-15,
The adjustable Koni's on the svo and its very large discs front and rear.

Massive sway bars and the World class Borg Warner T-5 just to name a few goodies.!

To me it was a heavy , very responsive car , it really made your senses go when you drove it and it tried to take control in a corner yet you could always keep the reigns on it.

Oh yeah did I mention the wonderful Locking diff with 3:73 gears in the rear too!

Talk about a drift car!

You should have looked at the TC you got the 2.3 out of closer. They had the same adjustable suspension and the older (83-86) ones had the Garrett T3. The T5 and bigger sway bars too.

The SVO had a better intercooler and mapping, so it had 210 hp instead of our 190. I think it still had the same 4-cyl T5 as in regular mustangs and TC's. If it was a V8 T5, then that's an up too.

The real up is the shorter wheelbase. T-birds are not drift cars. Not boosted fours anyway. The car wants to spin with the extra length, and not just the tires. It's very hard to keep in line.

And Merkurs are just a completely different animal.

The T-5s in the SVo I beleive are the step up and are called the World Class Borg warner, everything in the 5.0's have a slightly different gear ratio and are just T-5's They are basicallly the same but many guys, even 5.0 guys look for an SVO tranny for some strip use.

I did happen to get the sway bars from the Turbo coupe. damn things are 1.5 " thick!

Im spending the evening peicing the car together and hope to have it running this weekend.
