| any good suggestions for a laptop that can play the latest games smoothly, while remaining some what portable. I was looking at the Asus g1s-a1, and im trying to see if there are any laptops that are comparable in spec and price (around $2100). The Dell XPS 1710 is ideal but too expensive and a little on the bigger side. |

So a Sagar 21" laptop with 2 harddrive and SLI 7950's is out of the question?
Almost ordered one myself.. cept the US retail who had one for $5000 wouldn't ship to Canada and the Canadian retailer wanted over $6500 for the same laptop.
I have a Dell XPS 1710 on the way for the wife, was supposed to be here 6 days ago. Sticker price is $4000, getting it for $3300 through work.
I have a Dell 9300, same size as the XPS1710, it's actually spec'd out to the same model years XPS, just without the fancy shell. It's portable,my only complaint is battery life. I can watch a movie full scrren, full volume, and thats it, office type stuff I can drag an extra hour or so out of it.
My 9300 will play almost anything out there.. "Test Drive Unlimited" I'm actually under minimum requirements and I can still play it good.
HP dv9330ca isn't bad, 2GB ram, 7600go (mine has a 6800go) HP's website says $1900
Other than the Dell and the Sagar I really haven't looked around at the current model available. |

I've got an XPS with the 7800gtx, and it's still not having any problems with new games, even after a year and a half.
I'm looking at a new one soon though, once I can spec a DX10 graphics card. |

| yeah the xps is great, but just too costly for me on a student's budget haha. What do you guys think about the Asus g1s? i think i read somewhere that its 8600M Gt supports Dx 10. But keep in mind that this wont be specifically for gaming, just the occasional Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 when it gets out. |

I would rethink the whole laptop thing for gaming. Next year your machine won't be able to run the newest greatest game and you can't typically upgrade them.
Gaming laptops are way too expensive for what you get. You could get a desktop machine for half the price and then buy a cheap laptop if you want it for school type stuff like surfing, email and word processing type stuff and still have money left over. |

I think any 8000 series nVidia based card is DX10 capible... or so I heard.
I just installed a 8800GTS for my neighbour in her desktop... thing is noticably slower than a 7950GX2.. well she bought a new gaming rig.. cost her $1600(with 19" lcd) and my wife's laptop which will be compariable for speeds is $3300.
When I bought my laptop I went all out because it was going to be a full desktop replacement for me. The wife was taking my tower, which my laptop was faster than anyhow. For me the $3100 I spent on my laptop is well worth it, it's pushing 2 years old I think this summer... |

| Id rather get the laptop opposed to a good desktop and a basic laptop, only because i don't spend much time at home close to none really. I just want to have a laptop that can play GTA:4 if it comes out for pc rather then having to buy a 360. |
