Atkins or Pineapple rebuild kits? - Click HERE for Original Thread

brownguy
Hey,

I was wondering if you guys have ever used a rebuild kit, such as Atkins or pineapple racing?

Does anyone have any feed back on them?

Also the problem with my car is that it is lacking compression in 2 chambers of the rear rotor. Would these rebuild kits assit in my problem?

Also do shops like using these kits when doing a rebuild? or do they prefer rebuilding using another engine?

Thanks

Mobius
Sounds like you lost/stuck an apex seal. Getting a rebuild would assist your problem. Any "shops" that would give you a rebuild would probably supply their own parts, unless you specifically asked for certain parts to be used in the rebuild.

Taking the motor/car to any regular mechanic shop would be a waste of time BTW.

Pineapple Racing FTW

only becuase they use OEM seals and what not.......

Fadi spoke up for me :).

I went with pineapple racing because they are excellent with mixing and matching the "best of" components and using them in their kits. The pineapple rebuild kits feature stock apex seals, springs, corner seals. But they use series 6 corner seal springs and a heavy duty water seal that can be reused.

If you also look at the pineapple racing section over on RX7club.com they have a good amount of information on there kits. Apex seal choice comes down to personal preference, but you have to remember that there is guys running 600+ whp on the street with stock apex seals. It comes down to the tune and other factors.

The pineapple kit is a little more expensive but you are paying for the fact that everything is OEM mazda so you know it's going to last. It is tried tested and proven.

One of the biggest hit or misses with the aftermarket is the oil control rings. Pineapple uses only OEM because they have found that in rare cases the viton seals failure prematurely, then you are left with a oil burner. For the little extra money the quality and peace of mind is worth it.

Happy rebuilding and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
