| i am actually outraged they are doing that. Why isn't this being done to drunk driver? I wouldn't care so much if they did this to drunk drivers vehicles. Anyway, this topic has been beat to death way to many times. :lol: at the civc. |

i agree with you on the drunk driver part as my brother was killed by a drunk driver.
But street racing there seems to be a bit more of a problem there than it is here. |

I don't mean to sell the whole car. Just part it out.
Christian brings up a great point. The prospect of losing their vehicle is just going to cause more people to run from the cops if the situation arises. |

| pretty sure if i was dumb enough to street race and got caught they are gonna have to get the helicopter in the air after me. If my car is gonna get crushed u mid as well make it worth while. they sure aren't gonna catch me on ground lol. How does insurance work for something like that? I dont think they can justify crushing your car |

From what I heard you get nothing from insurance, just a crushed car.
And yes crushing cars is just gay, auction off the car just like the auction off houses, cars and other items that the police confenscate from other crimes. |

Drunk Driving isn't an epidemic anymore like it was in the 70's and 80's. There are relatively few drunk drivers aside from Holidays. Street racing, however, has reached the level that drunk driving was at back then.
As for why they don't sell the cars.....that would be theft. A government can impound your stuff, they can take it away for a set period of time, but they cannot take it and give it/sell it to someone else and give you nothing. If it was a proceed of crime, then it's not really yours it belongs to the people you got the money from. By crushing the car, they are giving back exactly what they took, but it in a different form.
Sure, people might run from the cops. But once they're caught, they get a street racing fine, their car crushed, criminal flight, wreckless endangerment and whatever other law the US Government wants to toss at them.
Your choices are to stop and get your car crushed, or run and spend 6 months in jail, a year suspension once you're out AND get your car crushed.
So you better not have your actual plate on the car and you better not get caught. |
