Winter Tires - Click HERE for Original Thread

Blackout-spec
I know winter is a ways away, but i want to get some new winter tires for my stock 17" rims.

I know there are the blizzaks, but ive read that once they are down to 60% tread left that they suck.

Anyone got some winter tires to recommend me?

I just figured instead of reading reviews for all the tires you can can just let me know how you like yours.

I'm very happy with my Toyo Observe G-02s.

And my wife's Michelin X-Ices seem decent as well.

i had some called champiros, bought them super cheap from re-run tire ( 9415- 58 ave) they were new even thought that shop deals with alot of used stuff. the guy gave me the story that they were made @ the same factory as nokians.... truly i didnt care they looked aggresive for snow so i bought them. they kicked ass and got me and my POS vw up to the mountains about 40 times between 2005-2007. I have run blizzaks back in the day (on a turbo II rx7) and they too were very very fun, but way more $$

the most fun will be had if you get cheap ones so you can burn them off ebraking around corners.

Hakkas are AMAZING.

I thought X-Ice sucked.

I had some Vikings from Tirewarehouse and they were much better.

Wow I had X-Ice on my concorde, and that car was amazing in the snow!! Never could get it stuck, and it stopped soo well. Made me realize that snow tires, 100%, do in fact make a difference, suffice every other "winter" tire I had ever used before.

X-Ice $400 a pop though.

i have nokians, but they didnt seem to stop that well on icy roads. i think they are more designed for heavy snow as i felt like i was driving a tank. those things were awesome.

my gf has some that are great on ice but not so well on snow.

im not sure if i can get a combination of both but yah the nokian have been good to me.

gab
i use continental winter contacts..... but that was the only 20" winter i could find close to my size

I just use the X-Ice's, and they work fine. The Dunlop Graspics I had before seemed to work just as well for me.

If you drive for the conditions, I'm sure any of the cheap (Walmart, CT) winter tires are more than enough for you.
