exhaust pipe coatings - Click HERE for Original Thread

I am planning on buying some of that 2.5 inch exhuast piping from canadian tire. Plan on painting it flat black but want to know where i can get it coated with something that will protect it from rust. will those cans of rust proofing that you can buy at canadian tire work or just end up getting burned off.

You can buy "High Temp" paint from Auto Stores that should last pretty decent.

i know that, the paint burning off is not what i am concerned about. I know the paint will hold up on the piping. It's the rust proofing stuff i am curious about. I know you can buy rust proofing in cans and i am wondering if there is somewhere i can get the pipes coated so that they do not rust over a 2 year period.

Use high temp BBQ paint. It's flat black and mine has lasted for 2 years now. Good stuff hands down.

Ayeso
Use the header paint stuff, it holds up good and lasts quite a while.

Yah, i plan on using something like that. they sell header paint in black. however, never put it on headers or exhaust manifolds. It burns off in 5 min. I bought it for my prelude stock headers. 5 min of driving, after i properly painted them and let them dry for 2 days, smoke was in the cabin and when i popped the hood smoke was everywhere. I thought the engine was gone but ohh no it was just paint flaking everywhere. Went out to buy some nice headers after that

If the paint holds up to moisture i guess i will hit it up. PS i am using that canadian tire exhaust piping. I am sure it will hold up fine. Any opinons on this? pipe is pipe the way i see it and if it says exhaust piping i figure it will hold up

Go to Perfection Powdercoating and get them ceramic coated.

thats the answer i wanted to hear!!! how much do you think it would cost to do all the pipes. If its hundreds or 150 i think i will risk the rust and go with the high heat paint. It would just be cheaper to do it that way. its not ever winter driven so i don't think it would rust anyway.

It depends how much piping you need done and whether their pricing has gone up much over the last few years.

This is going back ~4-5 years for me but if I remember correctly I had a pair of downpipes done for ~$60-80 and a pair of testpipes done for ~$100-120. They've held up very well so far.
(I say "pair" in my case because you need TWO of everything on a Z32TT).
