He was making a joke. If the guy doesn't even know how to spell VTEC, or know what VTEC is...he probably shouldn't be doing a b20/VTEC build.
Thats my opinion anyways...

| i am assuming its the same thing as the h23 vtec. Since the blocks are the same you can swap the h22 head over to the h23 block. there are a few little other things you need to do as well. I believe its almost exactly alike |

I'm not trying to sound rude, but what would be best is if you do some research. You obviously are desperate need of knowledge of Honda motors and how they work.
I suggest www.honda-tech.com
Just READ the info...don't ask question because they will flame the shit out of you.
And if you want the short answer, the B16 Head flows the best.

Isn't asking questions part of research? I'm sure nobody in this thread had a gun to their head forcing them to make a reply. |

he was informing him of where to go for reliable information regarding that engine build. I would not really trust 780 to give a better answer than honda-tech. Sure there are people on this board that know what they are talking about but for every one that has a clue there are another 20 teenagers giving false information.
With honda-tech, they will give you a straight answer, that is correct. They will just flame you to the point of internet depression and edge you on to kill your noob ass by any means avaliable. |

Like Prudz_lude said, I was in fact answering his question.
I've been messing around with Hondas for years and no the ins and outs of them pretty damn well. I also leaned that the best way to learn or do something, is to do it yourself.
I gave him an informative website where he can collect all the necessary information to correctly build a B20/VTEC.

I wasn't trying to jump on you, just seemed like the most relevant post to quote at the time. "Research", "google", etc... seems to be the normal response when most people ask a question nowadays. Whereas it would be easier to type nothing at all, then be a smart ass to someone trying to learn. Kudos on actually giving the original poster relevant advice... unlike me :D |

honda-tech provides the best information for hondas plain and simple and you will never see more frankenstein engines come out of any site then that one.
Some guy took a f22,h22,h23,and all these other engines he had laying around and built a motor that worked. hahaha i am not actually sure what it was so don't quote my engines i just listed but it was honestly 4 different kinds. Just insane info on that site. The crazier part is he made a whole write up on how he did it. |

Jasonturbo-
Seriously, I think the bashing is appropriate
First of all, I pretty much have never found any valid technical info on this site at all. The only things people contribute are too general, and usually wrong, or mostly opinion.
Secondly, VTECH, seriously, how many times...... I know it's hard to remember but... VTEC VTEC VTEC VTEC, ther is no H
You would have been better off to google B20vtec it's probably got a wikipidea entry.
B20 vtec is a reference to the B20 bottom end found on crv's not the old school prelude b20 which is totally different, with any b series vtec head bolted to the b20 bottom end.
There is 2 generations of b20 crv engines, more or less the exact same, as for the heads there is quite a bit of difference with head choices.
B16a1- B17a1- obd0 dohc vtec head, worst of them all(92-93 gsr had this head as did many jdm ef chassis cars.) would be a good candidate for the swap due to it;s cam profiles that cause power do drop after about 7600rpm, except if it's going into anything other than obd0 chassis, you will pretty much have to replace everything electronic on the head, or do some creative work, that you are definetly not capable of. I could do it, but you couldnt.
b18c1- obd1- obd2 gsr head, kinda the outcast head of the honda family, has a rather irregular intake manifold with secondaries, better cam profiles than obd0 and good for lsvtec and b20 builds as the cam profiles makes the power drop off around 7600rpm, b20's and ls vtec's as a rule dont like to rev over 7500rpm unless they were built properly, maybe the best suited head for this build in my opinion.
B16a2, B16a3, and b18c5- obd1-obd2 heads, b16a3 heads arnt very common and are found in obd1 del sol sir's, they are the exact same as the b16a2 in every way, b16a2's are found in obd2 form in 99-00 civic sir's. Of course there are many more donor vehicles for b16a2's in japan. There is also differences found in the cam profiles of the usdm and jdm versions among other differences like higher compression pistons and other things that arnt related to your theoretical b20 build, as the bottom end wont be used for anything. B18c5 found only in integra type r's or jdm honda integra type r's head is a b16a2 head on steroids, factory 5 angle valve job, and some other touches make this the head of choice for power, stock cams make power close to the 9000rpm territory with proper tunning, not exactly suited for b20.
The easy way to do an ls vtec right is to get a complete b16 or b18c with spun crank bearing or something similar and use the p73 or pr3 pistons in the bottom end of a b18a or b for an ls vtec, it equals high compression on the cheap, Unfortunately the b20 has a larger bore not standard to the b series family, I beleive standard b series is 81mm and b20 is 84mm bore.
And consider when you do this conversion you will pretty much need everything except the bottom end, ideally you will get injectors, ecu, harness, dizzy, vtec spool solenoid and pressure switch, intake mani for your specific head, exhaust mani would be preferred etc.. so unless you want to start looking for all sorts of small items, just buy a complete swap that has a blown bottom end.
AS for making the b20 work with a VTECH (hahahaha) head, the trick is to use a tee fitting on the oil pressure sender or a sandwich adapted on the oil filter to run a vtec oil sipply line directly to the copper allan key head shaped plug on the back side of the head by the thermostat housing, you also have to relocate and drill out the dowels that line the head up with the block. pretty much the same story with a b18 non vtec bottom end with vtec head conversion called an ls vtec. just incase you need clarification.
pr3= b16a1 b17a1 b16a2 and b16a3
p73= B18c1 or b18c5
I think that should pretty much answer your questions, I kinda rushed this, i would normally not have said anything, but I just had to shake my stick of honda awesomeness.
To all the people that hated on me when I got banned, kiss my ass. It;s not my fault im smarter than you will ever be. get a sense of humor.
Now un ban me bitches. |
