how does a pawn shop work??? If I want to pawn off something to get some money for it, I take it to them, but how do they access value, etc?!

They give you what they think it is worth to them. Which isn't much. Im sure they have a nice mark up when they try and sell it though. A pawn shop is for when you are really desperate, or you just have something you want to get rid of but no one will buy it.

I think that alot of pawn shop brokers are familiar with a shitload of products, so you'd be surprised what you might get for some of your shit.

I actually picked up an old manual SLR camera in mint condition for $140 with a wide angle lens. The lens itself was worth the $140, so the guy got taken a little, but that's the way it goes.

Thats not always the case. What do you want to sell. You may get a good deal but they are in the market to make money.

Some stereo equipment, maybe some guitars??!

I dunno... I need some money and it seems no body wants a month old cd player... :( Or sub/amp...

Is that your fav. part about going to a pawn shop...!? :thefinger:

j/k

Oh well.... Maybe I'll hang onto my stuff...

ChromeDragon
Yeah, pawn shops are never a good option for selling. They will give you jack compared to what your shit is worth. I bet you could sell your stuff on here for half what you're asking now and still come out ahead of where you would dealing with a pawn shop.

as far as I know the deal with pawn shops is this
if they have a lot of what you are trying to sell they might not even take it or offer you crap all for it
if you are selling them a "Hot Commadity" something that they can sell quick they will give you more.

the general rule for the pricing
they will pay you 25%-50% of MSRP
they will sell for 50%-75% of MSRP

how is that different than any other weekend for chris?

scooby_dooby
pawn shops aren't that bad. probably won't want your deck, maybe, but they see alot of car decks, no doubt.

Don't sell it at a pawn shop, just PAWN it, that's more of a loan on your stuff. You have a month to pick it up, or you can pay another $20 and they hold it for another month etc...

Tools are good at pawn shops, Guitars are good, jewelery is good. Audio shit they'll lowball you hard.

chris, dont do it. Pawn shops will generally give you between 20%-30% of what the item is worth. that way they can sell it for 50%-75%. Also, there is a diferance between "selling" you stuff to a pawn shop, and "pawning" your stuff. Generally they will give you less money for your item if you are selling it. But trust me chris, dont pawn your stuff, you'll get ripped off hardcore. I should know, i come across allot of deals in my dad's pawn shop. Just sell your stuff privately, try the bargan finder news paper, it's free to submitt adds, plus you'll be able to sell your stuff for around 75% of what it's worth, instead of 25%.
