this weekend my dad was in a baseball tournament and his teamate broke his ankle... so i went and played with him. he decided to stay in leduc where the tourney was (camping) for the night with his team and i drove his truck home (01 sierra 6.6l turbo) (to sherwood park) because our dogs needed to be fed and let in the house for the night. The next game he had was at 8a.m the next morning.
So i woke up the next morning and i was runnin late. I was on calgary trail heading to leduc at about 7:45 ... cutting it close, so i figured i would go fast. i drive a 90 civic hatch which is slow ass and crazy loud because of holes in my exhaust so i usually just drive speed limit or 10-20 over(highway). anyways dumb me thinks, wicked my dads truck is a beast and i will rip, get there fast and see what this truck has. so i was on calgary trail (highway 2) goin between 140 and 170. . . i did 140 ish when i would pass other cars and then 170 to get from one pack of cars to the next. anyways a cop radared me at 167. i saw him in my rear view before he even turned his lights on. i pulled over right away, he did turn the lights on though.
he came to the truck (it was off), and i didnt have my licence... because im dumb and i left it in my car at home.. (172$ ticket), my dads insurance papers where old, and he has the new ones sitting at our house so that was another 172$ ticket and then i have a speeding ticket with a court date... no price listed. So i realize that i am the dumbass here,.. but im just wondering if you guys know any way i can get around being screwed(by myself)? I am 18, male turn 19 in sept, I have my gdl licence, got it in october, ive never had a speeding ticket, or even been pulled over. i got a parking ticket once but thats it.
anyways, i kinda need my licence for school (im taking nursing and the clinicals start at 6 ish in the morning and i could be place anywhere in city) but taking the bus is an option. so i am wondering.. is there anything i can do to help myself? at 167... i am a dangerouse driver, so i see why i should have my licence taken away. and the cop got me, so thats life.. but then im wondering, what am i facing? what do i need/should i do? are there any courses that ama etc. has, and are their any other things that i could do, to convince a judge that i just screwed up once and im not a menace to the road. im not looking to fight the ticket, because everything was my fault, the cop was a really nice guy, he said he should have impounded my dads truck (for having expired papers), but he believed me so he didnt. or are judges willing to make deals ever? because my court date is august 15 (in leduc)... i need my car for work till the end of summer, but i dont need it for the first semester of school. anyways if you guys have any input that can help me thanks. and yea i know im dumb for goin that fast... ill n ever do that again.
at least ets has soem new buses that looks good.
edit --- i just learnt that my ticket is 115 (2) (p) which is
Speeding - by more than 50 kph and i didnt get careless driving which is 115(2)(b). but im guessing the penalties for both are the same? so it doesnt really matter. and the judge probably figures that 167 is careless....
btw, i was late for the game and we lost, adn then we lost the game after and were eliminated..
most expensive baseball game for me. |

Holy fuck. At least I use paragraphs.
You can try to plead with the judge, tell him you need the licence.....but a ticket this big on GDL will make it hard to convince a judge of anything. |

I saw a kid with a 50+ ticket walk into court, was full ready to plead guilty and take what ever the Judge was gonna hand down, the crown stopped the kid from pleading guilty took him asside and told how bad it would mess him up to plead guilty to it, even though the kid drove for a living, he was still gonna plead guilty...the crown cut him a deal to plead guilty for 49 over.. still a big ticket, still demerits.. but kept his license...
So talk to the crown plead your story, be honest, polite and remorseful - leave out the part about your car having holes in the exhaust.. explain how yu need your car/license explain this is a one time lapse in judgement and see if the crown is willing to work with you. |

| Your fucked if it was Edmonton I would say you can probily get a decent reduction but being in leduc its over, people have a nickname for the crown in leduc its a female and she is brutal. I guess there's a chance she can be on holidays or something and it will be a different crown. Dragon lady that's what they call her |

| I really dislike the crown in leduc I was gonna fight a unsafe lane change ticket so I showed up earlier than I should have hopeing to talk to her. I sat around the courthouse for an hour and a half waiting for her (she was late for the court time) and I was last on teh doket and couldnt afford to sit around anymore so I just payed the ticket and went on my way. I have other stories for why I dislike her and some stories from friends but I dont feel like typeing that much now. Hopefully you luck out tho:dunno: |

my ticket says
unlawfully contravene section = 115 (2) (P) SPEEDING (in capitals)
then there is a x in the box marked traffic safety rules.
down lower it says "in the name of her majesty the queen you are therefore commanded to appear before a justice at Provincial Court, 4612 - 50, Leduc ....
speed limit = 110km/h recorded speed= 167km/h
i have plenty of research / learning to do. |

I've heard bad stories about court in Leduc. I got a ticket for 140 in an 80 zone and after talking with the crown prosecutor got it reduced to 49 over I believe, which is $500 and 6 or 8 demerits.
People make mistakes and if this is your first ticket and you talk with the crown prosecutor you may get off lucky like I did. Make sure to dress nice and show up to court early. And when you talk with the CP be honest and admit your mistake and hopefully they're in a good mood that day. :dunno:

| 50+ will net you around a 1500 fine and roughly 3month suspension and 8 demirits, thats what my friend got. it was 140 in a 70 and thats pretty much what he got after court |

| Yeah, you made a mistake and you have to be prepared for the worste case scenario, but hopefully they'll help you out! |

| I just had a 60+ ticket in Sherwood Park. I got $1750 in fine and no suspension. I did however end up still getting a 30 day suspension as the ticket pushed me over the allowed demerits. |

Haha... the only ticket I've had is a laser (70 in the 50 zone by Scona HS). That was only $100 and 2 demerits after I went to the crown and got it reduced.
But fuck, those fines on the 50+ tickets are unreal. |

i really hope i dont ruin my drivers record. im hoping that maybe the lady would put me at 49 over instead of 57 over... that way i wouldnt get a licence suspension.. and then id get 4 demerits.. and i would register in a defensive driving course and get 3 demerits taken off. then i would be at 1 demerit and wouldnt have a bad driivng record i dont think?
but worst case... would be what? me gettin my licence taken away for?? 3 months? and a 1500$ fine? and insurance would go up how much?? its currently 171.08 or something a month for pl/pd ??(basic, with theft and fire) i currently have 0 demerits. |

| I could be wrong but I think they issue a $500-$1500 fine for driving 50+ over the limit, along with demerits and/or a suspension depending on how much over you were and how they feel that day. :dunno: |

hmm call me lucky... on my way from kal-tire to school (late by the way)... i got on whitemud and pinned it... goin about 135 to look in my rear view mirror and watch a cop pop his lights on... i pull over and ill admit i was a little worried... then when to feel for my wallet and OH SHIT! left it at home... there goes my liscence... he walks up to the car asks for liscence and registration... i pop open my glove box to hand him my registration... he takes it and asks me is this the right address ... i say yes... then a few moments later relize that that was the wrong address it also said that the car belonged to somone else :O (seeing i just bought the car a lil while prior)... then i tell him no thats wrong and that i gave him the wrong registration...then he asks me is this the proper registration... i take a look at my glove compartment... OH SHIT! i left registration at Kal-tire... he asks for my parents name and number... goes back to his car... comes back to my car and tells me not to say that cops dont do anything for me and leaves... I ended up with no ticket while going 55 over and no lisence and no registration. He called my parents to conferm my story and boy did i get a earfull later on... but yea nice cop eh?
That kind of thing shook me up a bit... dont speed like crazy anymore try to keep it civilized now. and boy when i go over even the smallest amount...boy do i watch that rear view mirror |

wtf is wrong with this thread? The guy came for advice and everyone is talking about how they got let off without the cop even issueing a ticket?
Did I miss where this suddenly become story time?
At least EDISKRAD gave the name of a group who can help and mentioned what they did for him. If your story doesn't contain information like that, this is probably the wrong place to put it.
I'm starting to dislike coming here because of all the bullshit posts that aren't helpful in any way, shape or forum.
Just think: "If I had posted here looking for help, is what I'm about to say something I would find useful?" If it isn't, keep it to yourself because no one cares. |
