well I am in the market for a new digital camera, I am thinking I will be looking for somethign in the point and click area instead of a digital SLR as it will be a general use camera. As for price range I am going to try and keep it under 500.
So basically I am looking for suggestions from those that may know more about current digital cameras then I and opinions from those that have a camera they are super happy with. |

For under $500, you should have no problem finding a nice point and shoot. I've always loved the Canon A series. My first one was an A40 with 3MP. I still use it to this day.
I hear lots of good things about Nikons and Kodaks as well. |

I recommend the Canon A640 as a great everyday point and shoot. So easy, even my wife likes it! Canon A640
AYPI: dude, the Canon S5 just came out! My bother just bought one from London Drugs for $550 yesterday. Awesome camera. Great for anybody that wants to do more with a camera but dosen"t want the hassles of a full SLR. Canon S5
I've always found that Canons sit nicely in my hand, the functions are simple to understand and I get great low light shots. My Nikon is great in the sun, but once it you take inside, for get it, I was very disapointed when I took it to a wedding in the spring.
Best thing to do is to just go to London drugs on a quiet weeknight at try out a few. Any $400 camera will give you decent shots, you just need to find the one you want to use.
Don't forget to buget in Memory, a bag, rechargeable batteries and other goodies:thumbup: |

| You could probably find a used Digital Rebel for under $500 quite easily if you want to try the DSLR route. I highly recommend it. I don't think I'll ever buy another P&S camera again. |

I thought about going DSLR but decided against it for the time being as I really dont' think I will use most of the feature gains you get with DSLR, for right now I am looking at something that is easy to use and takes a good quality picture.
I am really leaning towards the canon S5 IS right now. I am going to go to the store tomorrow night and look at it in person and check out some other cameras as well.
I spent some time on dpreview.com looking over the different cameras that are available right now |
