Do you tell people to shut up in a movie theater while a movie is playing? - Click HERE for Original Thread

GOT BOOST
Hi everyone,

I had pondered this question this afternoon after my experience while watching 1408.

Here is the scenereo,

These 2 chicks who were sitting one row behind me, and 2 seats to my left, who could not have been more than 18 were yapping away.

30 min into the movie they are still yapping. I am still trying to ignore them but with every "ya, like totally" word that comes out, my patience is becoming thinner. Before I realize what is going on, this dude 2 seats to my right turns arouond and says "Excuseme, can you please be quiet". These girls laugh a bit then shut up for maybe a few min before they continue on. Eventually I loose it, turn around and in a really loud voice say "Hey, do you think you can shut you mouth for more than one or two minutes. That would be really nice if you could, thanks."

Ever since then, they never said a word and I could hear people around us snickering.

I was supprised to see that only 2 of us had said something while were were there?

I am curious,

When you are in a movie, do you ever tell anyone to shut their pie hole while it is playing?

I haven't really had a problem with it lately. Usually when people spend $15 to see a movie they actually want to watch it. Back when I was in high school we used to go to the dollar theatre a lot and had lots of problems with it.

One particular night a few young guys (16-17) were sitting up front and making a shitload of noise before the movie started. Once it got going they weren't too bad, but about 10 minutes in one guy's cell rings. He's speaking really loudly and as people tell him to be quiet he starts yelling and talking louder into the phone. Eventually people were yelling at him so much that he couldn't hear the people on the phone and he stormed out of the theatre.

About five minutes later we hear yelling outside the theatre doors and people banging against the walls. Found out from the cop stationed outside the theatre (thankfully he was) that the stupid kid had gone out to his car and grabbed a loaded gun and was coming back in. Luckily the cop and a security guard stopped him.

But yeah ... in the past I have told people to shutup. Usually the turn and glare gets it done ... for myself anyhow.

Of course. Even if someone keeps crinkling their damn candy bag for five minutes straight! I'm kind of a confrontational SOB though. It's a pain in the ass sometimes just it just happens without thinking.

Haha, there was this girl I know about 5 rows in front of me one time..

She was yakkin' through the first fifteen minutes of the movie on her phone so I tossed a couple M&Ms at her and was like "SUSAN, SHUT UP!!!"

She clammed it up and never saw me!!!

And even if I don't know them, I'll tell 'em to shut up.

Another reason to not go to the theatres

Dumbass remarks before the movie are tolerable but during is annoying.

I dont stand for it, and it actually cost me before. One guy right in front of me had answered his phone on 3 different occasions while LOTR was playing, and this was in the first hour. When he answered his phone he didnt seem to concerned about getting done quick either. Durring the third call of his I grabed his phone out of his hand and bombed it down the isle. His phone broke so I gave him a couple hundred bucks for it, and was more than happy to do it, I got the applause and his ass got booed bad enough that he left the fucking theatre. As someone else said earlier, sometimes being confrentational is a bad thing.

Rich_A
I yell "shut the fuck up" in Blink 182-esque live-show fashion.

speaking of dollar theatres rofl

I am a shit disturber at those. One time i went to see that movie, fuck i don't remember the name, skateboarding one. Anyway, me and 2 friends got shit faced before hand and the theater was filled with 14 year olds. We were so loud and obnoxious. The screen started to get choppy so i hucked an empty mickey bottle at the screen. It didn't help. Eventually two seats in front of us got kicked in, a thing of pop made contact with the screen and my friend began to pee in the corner of the movie theater (the front, right by the screen) while asking the audience if they minded if he pee'd there.

This was then followed up by my other friend running to the freshly cleaned bathroom and puking all over the toilet, sink, and floor. Along with pee on one of the toilet paper rolls.

We were told to shut up several times and stop ruinning the movie but nothing and nobody was able to. I guess i was just that guy, that day

I don't think that would blow over so nicely in a pack theater at south edmonton common

Cheapies FTW!!!!

Too much fake badass for one post. You are supposed to spread it out over a few pages.

Also, your hat is on crooked, and your motore jeans are too white.

omniman69
depending on what i might have in my hand at the time, i throw it. Pop, nacho's, candy who gives, and when they look back/front all pissed i say"guess next time u will shut your hole and i won't loose my food will ya?"

only had to do it twice, cause i have a pretty high tolerance level at times.

That would be a good solution for anyone. Man, woman. You don't need to know them, just chuck something at them and say "Susan, shut up!"

I've seen a crowd clap when someone's told to shut up. That's awesome.

flatboy
I haven't been to a theater for probably at least 2 years, maybe even more. My wife probably knows to the day cause I flipped the hell out big time cause a couple kids where yapping and pissing around. There parents wern't any better.
First my wife said something politely to them then like 15 minutes later it was fucking yap, yap, yap answer phone, fuckin move around FUCK! jesus fuck..........
Then they moved way far away from me and were quiet the rest of the movie after I stood up turned around and fuck'n yelled like road raging yell.

I was actually really embarresed then, I mean fuck, I yelled and swore and said bad things in a movie theater with kids and stuff in it. Nobody clapped or anything, it was like dead silent. oops

If this is true than you might actually be clinicly retarded. I dont see how that is in anyway cool. Cheap theatre or not being an arrogant asshole isnt funny.

Fazda
ya i probably would of beat your ass if u did that while i was watching a movie. anyways went to transformers and this bitch kept laughing way to loud. i wanted to kill her. I haven't had any real bad experiences though.

midnite
doh.. ads.

midnite
dont really care at the cheap theatre, but in a normal ones i will.

at one movie this kid next to me would laugh incredibly loud and out of control at every little thing, so i said to his buddy 'it's nice to see you taking the special kids out to a movie now and then..'

Fazda
lol that was like that girl a row back just laughing and it was soo high omg. i wanted to kill her. Just one of those laughs that leave u cringing.

Flex
I'm a big movie nut so when I go to the theartre I want to enjoy the movie. Plus with the prices nowadays I dont want to waste $40 bucks (taking the GF) listening to someone yapping through the whole thing. I will always ask someone thats yapping nicely once to please be quiet.....if I have to ask again Im not so nice.

Jenn and I where at the theatre in St. Albert and about 7 or 8 rows ahead of us the whole row was a bunch of teenagers farting around. Most of them where not to bad but at our end there was a guy his gf and her friend and the 2 girls where sitting facing each other and not even looking at the movie and yapping away loudly like they where having a coffee. It boiled me pretty good, so when the girls BF went to the can I followed him. I told him to shut hs GF's yap and if he didnt me and him where gonna have words again after the show. When he came back everytime his GF turned to talk he would grab her and turn her back to face the screen...it was nice and quiet after that.

ohboyitsme
What I don't understand is talking back to the movie screen. IT doesn't happen that much here but when I've been in th states a few times and seen movies everyone in the whole theatre is yelling stupid comments at the screen.

GFK can confirm its true. He was there. Fazda knows how out of control GFK is so that should help prove its true. Either way it was a funny time. I would never act this way in a good movie that i know people paid more than 2 dollars to get into. not to mention the fact the age group in it was 13-16 year olds and i was 18 at the time.

I don't wear hats, and motore jeans are gay

Fazda
lol im not gonna lie scott aka gfk is fucked. like literally would still candy from a little kid fucked. i beleive every word of it. i went to school with him. Always throwing shit down the stair wells at nait. haha the apples were always the best. trust gfk is straight up fucked. its most likly 99% true.

Fazda
i miss the days of scott never knowing what stupidly redicilous shit he would do next. lol

$2 or $15, I would still punch you in the neck for acting like that. It sounds like you're proud of your jackassery?

I am, it seems i had one of the more fun teenage years compared to the conservative majority. I do not act at all the same way i used to because it was time to grow up and i accept that, but while the times lasted it was a blast.

That might be true, but it doesnt change the fact that you were clearly an asshole, at least in the theatre

Prudz_lude
I am pretty sure i clearly stated that.....
