has anyone here ever swapped a M20 engine into a E21 320i?, or know of anyone?, or have the info that might be related into such a task?.
picked up a '79 320i that needs frost plugs, and my '81 733i has a pretty rough body. So put 2 and 2 together, 6 cyl and 5 spd into a light 320i should be a fun car once finished and that is my overall plan.

I would do a search on google for a BMW forum. They would have much more useful tech info.

| it will fit. but im not sure if it will be a bolt on. my uncle ust to have a m5 swaped 1979 310 race car(europe version) he had to modify the fire wall a bit that engine was huge in such a small car. |

the engine should drop right in. Like i said, ALPINA built a bunch of these cars, and from what i have found so far there was no firewall issues.

The 733i engine is a M30, not a M20. M30s are bigger than M20s and they don't fit without work.
Your 733i is a standard? Thats rare. I'm looking for a M30 standard tranny.
And the E21 came from factory with the M20 engines. They fit without a problem. |

my 320i came from the factory with the m10 4 cyl, the 323i and the 325i cars came with the 6 from my research.
My plan is to swap the crossmember from a 6cyl car, or build up the little 4 cyl and swap the 5 spd i got in my shop while the engine and trans are out since i have to do the frost plugs on it.

| Turbocharge the M10. The M10 is the strongest engine BMW ever build. Run 15psi and you kill every E30 and e36. You can install a nice turbo setup for around 2000 Dollar. |

a turbo build is lookin more and more interesting right now, lol.

| Turbo is the way to go. Cheap and lots of power. I drive a M20 Turbo and I'm pretty even with an E46 M3. 335i no problem. And my setup was only around $2500. |

will it beat every e36:D
turbo is definately the way to go. any specs on your setup? |

ya?, specs would be nice.
not to "replicate" your build, but it might be a good base to start with.

My setup is a very basic setup. T3T4 turbo, bigger injectors, FMU and 9psi boost. Most of the stuff I bought on ebay. It is a budget setup. When you are really interested in turbocharging a bmw take a look on www.e30tech.com
I never raced a supercharged M54 but I drove some at work. Dinan, Autowerke and VF. Even the Autowerke Stage 2 Z3 M Roadster would loose. My car is quicker, believe me :D You need a supercharged eurospec S54. |
