Here's the break down:
Everyone feels regret in their life but why do we?
When we regret, we are upset/disappointed over having done or not done something.
So what is the alternative of NOT having done something we did or DOING something we didn't do?
What is the alternative feeling?
Satisfaction?
Happiness?
An antonym for REGRET would be Contentment.
So that means we Regret because we lost out on being Content.
Subsequently, does our loss of contentment mean we only do things for our own happiness?
And that we regret because we did something that made us unhappy?
Because if we did something that made us happy, we wouldn't regret it right?
Are we persons of regret because we are selfish people who only pursue our own happiness? |

IMO in the end u should be lookin out for #1, helpin others is nice, but YOU are the only one who is goin to help yourself when shit goes terribly wrong.
so bein selfish sometimes can be good for u.

I think you're right man, loss of being content would explain the whole regret thing. BUt that's not necessarily selfish if you regret doing something because not only would it have made you "content", but it also may have put you in a better position to help others than what you are currently experience.
So help yourself not only to live a better life for you but also enable yourself to help others more (i.e. get rich so you can own a million dollar home but also donate tons of money to save starving kids in africa, etc.) which balances out the selfishness of it all. |

Regret from my view is a form of self pitty or to get pitty/attention from other's.
I consider regrets a form of weakness or lack of courage, If your personalty type is one were you linger on the past mistakes to much or whine about shit you should have could have blah blah blah your more prone to telling total bullshit on a 1-10 scale and can easily become a pathological liar or variant of it.
Now we all do it to some degree but it's HOW we do it that determines how much and why, We are creachers of habit and don't ever forget that, Habits make root's that spread... hmmm speaking of habit's I'm hungry MMMMMM fooooooooooooood.
P.S I can do philosophy all day, currently I am trying to figure out a way to create Quasars in the palm of my hand. |
