Can I fix this exhaust hanger without welding? - Click HERE for Original Thread

TrevorK
I have an exhaust hanger as shown below, which basically supports the muffler:

This has now broke, and there is no way to attach what was there (As shown in the pics) with the pieces left. So I'm looking for a creative way to fix this (My exhaust is bouncing off a stabilizer bar now) without needing to weld it.

It'll just be a temporary solution, I'm waiting on other parts to come in from the US and then I'll be taking it to get all of it welded. but that's probably a month away, and I really don't want the exhaust system banging around until then. I'd rather not pay the $40 now when I would be able to get it done for free with the rest of my parts.

I've looked through Summit/Jegs/NAPA online and can't seem to find anything. I'm thinking my best course of action is to find some way to hold it all up by having something clamp around the pipe exiting the muffler (right below) and tying it into the rubber piece that's attached (And in perfect shape) to the body. But in my searching I haven't seen a clamp/bracket that would do this...

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm almost wondering if there is some way I can get one of these:

to attach to the pipe that leaves the muffler and then attach it to the rubber piece (in the picture above) that attaches to the frame?

The only problem is I don't see any sort of "attachment" to connect the clamp (pictured above) to the rubber piece attached to the body (Pictured in my first post).

Man why not just go in and get it welded...way faster prolly cheaper in the long run.

want a ghetto solution that works?

A coat hanger........... unravel it and wrap it around that bitch.

Stick a screwdriver in it and twist that shit up till its tight.... pull out screwdriver...

Enjoy.

With my 80 hour weeks I won't get a chance to take it to any shop that I trust to weld it up, so I figure if I can buy a part on my way between jobs I'll just install it when I'm off work (at midnight).

If need be I'll take some time off work to weld it up, but I'd rather just hold off on that if I can until I have my other pieces that need welding in.

I'll have to try that out - that just might do the trick!

Take it to Supra Devil on the boards here. He can weld it up for you for cheaper than a shop and he'll actually do a good job.

You can buy exhaust hangers that are just strips of steel with holes drilled in them and a 90 degree piece of steel at the end. That works in conjunction with the clamp shown in the above posts. You just screw it to the holes in the frame then clamp the exhaust with the clamp, making sure you have the strap end in the "exhaust sandwich" and you have hung exhuast

Or even this might work--->

Just finished it 30 minutes ago and it works like a charm - bending the coat hanger was a bitch because there is no room but all that matters is it's working until I can get to a shop.

Thanks for the idea!
