iPod: AUX in or FM Transmiter? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hey, I was just wondering which would be the better choice for sound quality? A Headunit with iPod or AUX input or a iPod FM Transmitter? The Fm Transmitter I'd be interested in buying is the Belkin iPod TuneBase.

Anything that is hardwired is going to sound better. I have a FM transmitter and for the most part it works good, but in the city there are lots of spots where I get interference.

the aux input is way better...
but make sure to set the i-pod for "line in" output, as opposed to "headphone"

BUT, most of the mp3's you download are no where NEAR CD quality anyways, so don't expect it to sound much better.

And while we are on the topic, if you are looking at a head unit than get one that does Ipod control as oposed to just having an aux input. That way you can run the wire to the glove box, throw your ipod in there and control it through the deck. That way if you get out of the car and forget to grab the Ipod its not left out in the open not to mention trying to operate an Ipod while driving down the road is a bit of a hazard anyways.

Just don't get the FM transmitter. They suck ass.

fm transmitters are for noobs. take barry's advice and get a deck with ipod control built in. half the decks that are new this year will have that option. otherwise use an aux input. the only problem with that is you need to have the ipod in a apot that is easly accessable

I have one car with a deck that controls the ipod....one of those alpine double dins. Awesome little unit. Sounds the best by far. Lacks the portability factor obviously. :D

But.... I have owned the belkin........ not that great. If you want a fm/charger combo the monster one is worth the price. I have 2 of those. In different cars.....

I also ran an aux combo a couple of years back....... not that great.

In the end I use the monster units everyday. It charges the ipod as well and take it along with me when I leave the car.

Makes 2 of us.
The Belkin FM transmitter SUCKS but is MUCH cheaper than the Monster FM module. (1/3 the price I believe)
But the sound quality is leaps better than Belkin's...and this is coming from a non-audiophile.

I'd highly recommend it.

I wish I could afford The alpine headunit I want, but $550 is a little too much for me...

Anyway, I was looking at a few different ones before the weekend and the Monster isn't that much more expensive. Which ones do you guys have?

Bah, just go with aux in. I freakin hate my 2 fm transmitters. For a couple 10 dollar bills more than the monster cable thing you've got yourself a deck with aux in.

Same one I have (the one ae1969 linked to)

Except I bought mine from Best Buy cuz Future Shop sucks

I bought it today. It works for now, but in the near future I'll be upgrading to a AUX in.

Edit: Which FM station works best for you guys?

? Are you kidding me ?

The only reason I shop at futureshop is out of convenience. Close to my businesses and I can grab most of the things I need off the shelf.

Best buys business model is far superior. Non intrusive.

Service at futureshop is completely inconsistent.

Or downright creepy. I walked in today and this kid who worked there followed me for a few minutes before asking "Need any help?"

What are the differences between Best Buys buisness models and Future Shops?
