Relative Strength or Absolute Strength? - Click HERE for Original Thread

REFLUX
What do you value more in yourself?

Relative body strength or Absolute body strength?

Relative = being able to produce a significant amount of force in comparison to how much you weigh, your size, etc.

Absolute = being able to produce a significant amount of force, period.

Absolute. :dunno:

I think smaller people would value relative more and bigger people would value absolute more.:dunno:

when people try to argue that they're stronger than a larger person due to neuro muscular efficiency, it's almost sorta pointless.

Now it comes down to how you measure relative strength -do you go by 1RM? 2RM? 5RM? Stuff like that. Absolute body strength, same deal. 1/2/3/4RM etc.

I forget the term, but there's also another way to measure a person's strength by the total amount of weight displaced during a workout with proper form... that is, assuming the person knows (not assumes) what proper form is. It's a little bit more well rounded and no so much geared towards a given exercise (i.e. 1RM on flat bench)

Is there a relation to this and how much beer i drink?

jzz30tt
this is the honda arguement.

I make xxx hp per liter.

I think it really depends on what you use that strength for. If you need to lift heavy things, then absolute for sure. If you need to lift yourself, then relative. Gymnast vs. Olympic lifter.

Because this is a car forum :) 18 wheeler vs. F1 car. If you want to move something more than yourself, then absolute. If you just want to move yourself, then relative.

Jzz30tt: It's not really a hp/litre argument, more of lb/hp.

jzz30tt
yeah i know but just likening the two arguements that's all. Someone likes to claim that they are stronger for their size. Honda guys like to say they make 120 hp/L. That's the comparison is all.
