| We are hiring right now(like everyone in alberta) and a discussion came up as to where young people these day go to look for a job. When I was younger I always looked through the Edmonton journal, and then I used edmontonjobshop.com to find my current employer. So my question is if you were looking for a new job "What resources do you use to find a job?" |

| what positions are u hiring for? i know someone who is looking for a job. As to answer your question i always founded my jobs in the classified ads. usually a paper, or a dispatch of some sort. Usually something with a symbol catches my eye before just fine print in a basic ad. |

I agree with NESTLE, the Canadian Job Bank.

That's where I always find work, when I'm looking, unless through friends... |

| I just printed off a literal ton of resumes and started pounding pavement, dropping of resumes everywhere I might want to work.. |

Usually word of mouth, but my current job was found by dropping off resumes and actually talking to people.! I work with cars everyday now and I was unemployed for a week. (by choice, I never take holidays.!)
( I bet a few of you are scared to take your car to a shop now! LMAO)
I won't say what cars I have seen or worked on, just due to privacy and respect!
Doing the driving billboard is Cheesey though, its not very respectable. |

It's been awhile since I had to look for a job, but what I advise people to do is try to figure out what exactly it is that you want to do, and who you would like to work for.
At this point make appointments to talk to the people in charge of hiring to see what they would advise. The large majority of people are more than happy to listen to someone looking for a job and offer advice on the situation from their perspective.
With more and more opportunities being "contractors" these days, the jobs aren't as advertised as they used to be. By talking with the people in charge of hiring you are creating a connection with someone who may just be able to hire you right away. |

It has been quite some time since I've had to look for work, but I have a rather "quirky" way of finding employment.
What I do is go online or read the business trade papers. I try to track down either the Top 50 most successful businesses in Alberta or the Top 100 employers of the year within Canada. I read the articles and determine WHAT placed them in these top groupings. Then I hit their websites and skim through them. If the resources sound good and the website layout is informative and is well organized then I send those companies my resume.
I also make it a point of talking to people who are employed by these companies.
Hope this helps. I know it's tedious, but my research has on the whole paid off very handsomely both for me and the people that I associate with. I've been told quite often that I should start a recruiting company. These are just a few of the methods I use to get good work.
My two cents!
