Rear suspension - Click HERE for Original Thread

70newport
Alright so i am already experiencing a lot of rear end hop with my stock setup. im thinking of getting coilovers put in but have heard good and bad things about them any comments would be helpful or if you have suggestions as to what else to change up that would be awesome, thanks.

omniman69
is it a leafspring car?, get a set or cheater bars till u can afford to swap over to a full ladder bar/triangulated 4 link setup.

mike

flatboy
traction bars, cheap and easy to install.

70newport
it is a leafspring car, but what do you mean by a cheater bar, ive never really done much with suspension on any of my cars except putting air shocks on.
Where would be able to do something like that?

T-LAV MRV
these are the leafspring units.

for the ladder bar kit, this is more involving project.

i would suggest the bolt on traction bars, u can get them off summit racing online, or ebay.

mike

70newport
You dont have to weld them on at all do you? its just an easy bolt on you can do on a weekend with a jack and some time.

T-LAV MRV
ya, the traction bars are piss-simple to do, can be done in a day with a good set of tooling and a jack and jackstands in your driveway.

mike

70newport
awesome thanks a lot, im just getting such bad hop already and some people have suggested coilovers but i heard bad things too so i need to get something to get my tires on the road lol.

Gary

T-LAV MRV
no worries man.

u might even luck out and find them locally.

mike

70newport
yea i think im going to check like economy break and muffler and ask around at the mopar club on thursday night someone might have a lead.

gab
also make sure if you are going traction bars to see if they dig into the road if your tire goes flat. i got dinged for that on my nova. cost me 240 bucks. but they help alot

70newport
hey on your nova did they just help you hook up or did they help a bunch with tire skip going around corners?

gab
both. what kind of rear end are you running?

70newport
right now its just a stock 8 and 3/4 posi traction rear end. nothing too fancy i think its like a 3:36 gearing somthing like that i forget right now though

flatboy
here is a example of a universal set for like cheap

http://store.summitracing.com/partd...mp;autoview=sku

I too gota do something to my truck, bouncing is bad unless its a hot brunette.

and I see that a quick flat could sure dig the piss outa the ground and rip some shit apart.

70newport
even a hot brunette bouncing isnt always good sometimes they just need to take it lol hahaha:lol:

but yea that is super cheap i wonder how good it actually is but yea right now im skipping around especially the traffic circles like mad its driving me crazy. thanks for the find though if there good thats an awesome deal!!!!!

They work great for the price:thumbup:

How fast are you going in the traffic circle? Do you have a locker rear end or something?

70newport
i dont have a locker rear end its just the stock 8.75 from back in 68, and as for how fast im going in general im going like 40ish, sometimes faster at like 5 in the morning driving to work but its bad going around em so im slowing right down as of now.

I ordered a set of the traction bars that flatboy suggested, shoudl be here in about 2 weeks, hopefully they will be good but seeing as they were like 45$ with shipping its worth a shot,

ill let you guys know how well they do, any other suggestions would still be really helpful though i need to get my tires on the road.

T-LAV MRV
not really much else to do other than a complete rear suspension redo.

old mopars are notorious for wheel hop and axle wrap. Another suggestion would be to upgrade to a set of superstock leaf packs from Mopar.

mike

charger_guy
hey seeing i have very good experience with old mopars this is what i recomend.

Comp engineering slide-a-links:
http://www.competitionengineering.c...p?CatCode=13116

And run the mopar super stock leafs. U can easily run 750+whp through that rear setup.

here is a pic of my setup:

70newport
Alright so would the slide-a-links really be that much better than the summit racing traction bars? and also getting superstock leaf packs from mopar would that just replace my stock leafsprings? cuz im getting new ones of those made by edmonton spring pretty soon as of right now?

P.S. thanks for the picture are those normal shocks or are they airshocks or?......

charger_guy
those slide-a-links u can accually dial in. As for the shocks, they are air shocks, but i plan to get a set of mx6 shocks from procomp to retrofit the rearend.

70newport
yea if im trying to get it to hook up air shocks arent the way to go are they? cuz i find that on my 70 newport they dont let the weight transfer to the back quite as well. more fun for smokin the tires but for the amount that i actually do that, ( once or twice a summer) its not worth it lol haha.

and yea i guess that woudl be a better way to go. any idea of a place in edmonton to get those or an estimate on a cost?

T-LAV MRV
mopac might be able to get the leafs for u, me i'd go talk to skippy at crosstown and see if they can get them for u.

mike

70newport
skippy is like parts manager or something?

T-LAV MRV
he works parts, one of us turbo dodge guys.

mike

70newport
k kool maby ill go talk to him over the next week or so. speaking of turbo dodge guys you know anyone selling one of those cheap too for a winter car? i had my 91 laser 2.0L turbo written off by some idiot making a blind turn the other day.

T-LAV MRV
www.turbo-2.com is where i frequent(moderator), look for T-LAV MRV(thats me).
