I need glasses to drive. I am going for Laser eye surgery coming up, and I was wondering if there is a grace period where they allow you to get your licence changed. If there isnt, I will have to get this done ahead of time. Correct? :dunno:
Also, just out of curiosity, what would the fine/ticket be for driving without glasses if you need them? |

| I assume if you didn't have your license changed yet and you had your bill for the laser eye surgery in the car and told the cop you just hadn't updated your license yet he would be more than fine with that. I couldn't see why not. :dunno: |

The official answer is no. An officer could legally issue the ticket and the courts could legally uphold that ruling. Would they? Hard to say. If I had've come across that situation while I was on the job, I probably would have issued the ticket and let the court decide what to do.
If I recall, you can't drive right after the surgery anyways, you have to wait until the next day before the doctor recommends driving. If you wait until the doctor says you can, then have someone drive you (or bus whatever) to the licencing branch, I believe they can redo your eye test right there and have them re-issue a licence without the restriction. I would suggest calling the DMV before the surgery and ask them how they would suggest you proceed.
The violation you would get charged with would be 51(c) of the highway traffic act and carries a $230 fine. |

| I've never ever been asked about glasses... I wear contacts and never have worns glasses but never once have been questioned about it. |

| i honistly can't see it being a problem, i wear glasses when ever im out of or to lazy to put my contacts in. my licnence sayse i need them but my picture on my licensce shows me without them on. as long as you can prove that your vision is fine i don't see a problem at all. |

My drivers license says I need glasses... I haven't worn glasses for years. I was pulled over by a cop once who actually asked me about it;
"Says here you need glasses, are you wearing contacts? Okay good, on your way then..."
