Ever been really dissapointed driving... - Click HERE for Original Thread

You know when your a kid and you dream of driving car X, and then when you actually get a chance, you think it sucks? What a let down.

For me, the two experiences were:

Integra Type R: When this car came out there was so much hype around it. I took one out for a 20 minute rip. The lack of torque really put me off, and the car didn't handle as good as I expected. Still a nice car, just didn't live up to the hype.

Buick Grand National: I always thought these were cool, until I drove one.... I took one for a test drive (with the intention of buying it), and man did it ever suck!!!!! To sum up this car, picture a 1985 Monte Carlo (interior of a cab from the 80's), terrible suspension, even worse brakes. The thing pulled hard out of the hole, I'll give it that, but everything else sucked. I don't know how the owners can put up with 80's GM interiors, and such terrible handling. I mean you really have to go through corners like your driving and ETS bus. The thing only had 280hp (not much for such a big car), and the brakes were easily overwhelmed. I can't imagine what it must be like driving one with more power (like most owners have). I think this car has a built up such an awesome image, that people forget it's short comings.

I don't mean to offend Type R or GN owners, we all just have our personal preferences, and these cars didn't do it for me (well I'd take the Type R since it's put together so damn well, resale, etc).

I really hope that a Ferrari GTO wouldn't let me down!

ok coming from a person who has driven(even owned) a shitload of cars here is my opinion..

Type R- Not a lot of torque, not super fast, but an excellent little car that screems to be begged. Handling is excellent and looks awesome, aswell as wicked gas mileage(28-30mpg) A+++ in my books..

Grand National- With about $3000-$5000 in mods you can have a 11-12 second car which is completely streetable.. Very sweet looking, more of and older person looking car, but still get looks wherever you go. I drove one before and this thing is seriously awesome-awesome pickup on the highway and off the launch. Almosrt bought one but it was written off. Auto gets boring though.. A+ for a summer driver..

MKIII Supra Turbo- Very nice car-interior was ver nice, pretty fast but actually stock its fairly slow compared to some of the other cars i mentioned. Also had the infamous headgasket problem for a car that had 80k's on it.. Targa top was a nice addition for summer cruzing..Gas mileage was killer though, only got like 15-20mpg at the most. Looks are kinda outdated also. A++

Never owned a GN but had some good previous experience with the supra and the type R..

I will never get to drive my dream car, because its too rare :(

Porsche 959, A car truely before its time. Only 200 made ever..

I really wouldnt know which "attainable" car I'd choose as a "dream car"..

Most dealerships wont even let me sit inside a car, let alone test drive one.. *sigh* :)

Hey, that's my dream car too! 1987 1/2 Porsche 959 Sport. How can you NOT like 450bhp from a twin-turbo 2849cc flat-six? 1/4 mile time of 11.9 @ 119.5 is pretty good for a stock car. :D Paul Frere did 215mph with a tailwind... not many cars can do that.

MSRP: US$225,000 Current market: US$1,000,000+

colossus
s2000 what sportscar did you end up getting? Can't believe you didn't like the ultimate off-road machine.

Spline, you can test drive anything in this city, just dress up a little, fake an attitude and hint that you have $$$ then you'll get to drive a Mercedes G-Wagen or a Jag.

P.S. What's so great about a Porsche 959, it's so ugly and so slow.... kidding! But is is a rather ugly car. Now a Porsche 928.... now that's different!!!

Ultimate off road machine?? Hahahahaha

Tj's are garbage, they are overpriced, underpowered, cheaply built replacements for the only real civilian jeep ever made. This obviously being the CJ, which had a full complement of built driveline parts that you could beat the shit out of and never break!

Sadly my little Tracker can take a TJ in most off road situations, the only limiting factor being ground clearance, throw on comparable tires and that is pretty much cleared up. Add some locking axles and for under $20k cdn brand new you would have an offroad vehicle that puts a Hummer to shame.

Ha ha ha , yeah right, no seriously... do you really think that?

CJ's are cool, and great for 1960's-70's technology.

Tracker vs TJ's heh heh, Trackers are ok, they are underrated, and can kick the ass of a Lada, or a Samurai any day. RAV4 -vs- Tracker? Dead even...
