Hi Everyone,
Just to let those who are interested. The Supra is going in to be dyno tuned at AFI Performance Tuesday August 07 2007 @ 6:00 pm.
I have checked out the shop and it is very clean and impressive. Martin and his crew were good to chat with and informative.
For those that want to come out and check out the dyno tune or the shop feel free to drop by.
I hope I do not shoot a 2 foot flame out of my exhaust on this dyno run, like I did on the last one. :D
Here are the details
AFI Performance (780) 490-4226

Jason,
When I last dyno'd I was at 227 at the wheels and 267 ftlbs of torque. I figure a 25% loss in power due to transmission puts the car at slightly above 300 hp at the crank. Now when I dyno'd I had massive boost leaks, my spark plugs were swimming in oil, and the car was running extremely rich. The boost leaks have all been fixed, the valve cover gaskets resealed and tightned down with new and better bolts. According to what I have read, I was at Stage 4 when I dyno'd. I have since added the Fidenza Flywheel, Fluidyne Rad, flex-lite dual fans, and the S-AFCII to free up some hp and lean the car out.
I am hoping that when I do the first dyno I will be putting down about 240 ish at the wheels. When I am tuned in I will be happy with 270 to 300 at the wheels.
I have the spearco replcia IC I will be installing and a new head that has been ported, polished, 5 Angle Valve job, and 1 mm oversized valved. The car that it came from, dyno'd 230 at the wheels with no other modifications to the engine, exhaust or intake. This was done on 5 psi of boost, 87 Octane, and a dying CT-26.
Come spring, I will have the new goodies installed, and take it to Apex Modified for the dyno tune. My goal is to have over 450 hp at the wheels. I also have the Walbro 225 lph fuel pump that has been sitting on my shelf for 2 years now. I will wait untill I have upgraded, the injectors, AFM, and Turbo before I drop that in.

| From my personal experience with Martin and AFI Performance i would never go back to get any kind of work done what so ever and i will till the day i die tell people to never deal with this clown. If your just going to get a dyno done then i can't for see any issues, but as far as having this guy work on anything. Hopefully you guys take this advice and save yourself money, time and the biggest headache you will ever get. |

when i went to AFI, martin was incredibly helpful, showed me around his business and came across as an incredibly knowledgeable person, and from the work i have seen it shows.
i recommend AFI to anyone who asks before any other shop. Even though i didn't get any work done, i still recommend him cause a friend of mine has had work done there and it was A+ work completed.

Hi Jamie,
According to the driver at the time who used to be the pres of the surpa club and has no reason to lie, that is what he was running on the ported and polished head. :D
Flip,
I am adding some more go fast goodies over the winter. This is a new head which has had some work done, and also a larger IC.
Apex has made an araingemnt for a dyno tune for me. I want to be fair and still give them an opprotunity to tune my car. That way I can do a fair compairision between shops. :D

No such luck. It laid down very impressive numbers with out knock nor detonation.

| He probably just had the timing dialed way back to run on 87. If so and your now running 91 octane(i highly recommend shell vpower btw) you "should" be able to increase your timing without any detonation and see some pretty noticeable torque gains :) |

Jamie,
Hard to say... I do not recall the A/F ratios it put out. Supras run very rich from the factory when they hit boost. It could have been that the port and polish helped to lean it out a bit and helping with the overall efficiency of the combustion. Again, I am just going on his word. I can not verify he actually did put in 87 Octane on that run, but I have seen him put it in before and the car still had balls.
There were no other supporting mods that I can recal to go with the car such as an A/F controller.
Lococoin,
I only use premium in my cars. Infact, I use the Shell V Power. :D It seems to be great fuel.
At anyrate, I am looking forward to the base run to see how the car has improved before the tune. Then the final run and numbers after the tune, and the numbers when I put on the new head and IC before and after the tune. :D
Hopefully there is an improvement in hp.

Hahaha, I was at AFI yesterday Mike and Martin was pretty pissed at you. He told me that you didn't show up for your appointment. I told him that you were booked for the 7th and he looked at me weird. He told you the 7th and wrote down August the -1st. That's right, the minus 1st. He didn't notice that he drew arrows pointing down to the 7th and figured you no-showed.
Anyhow, I sort of cleared it up with him, but it looks like he has someone else booked on the 7th now so I would call and make sure everything is still a go if I were you.
P.S. The Aristo goes on the dyno on the 22nd. |

Hey Matt,
That is hilarious. I sent him a Pm on the 29th asking for confirmation and he replied on the 30th saying I was booked for the 7th. I even watched him write it down on his wall Calender when we were there.
If he double booked me or over booked then I will just go elsewhere where they are alot more organized, know what is going on and know how to look at a calender.
doom,
I have the Supra Sport Turbo Elbow, RT Down pipe, HKS Dragger exhaust, Apex-I AVCR, HKS SSQV BOV when I put down those numbers. Since then I have added the Flexilite dual fans, Fluidyne Rad, Fidenza Flywheel, RPS Stage 2 ,6 puck clutch, Apex-i SAFCII.

Question for ya.. with your Flex-a-lite fan.. what fuse are you running? My flex-a-lite came with an inline mini blade 30amp.. the damn fuse melted and burst into flames last weekend... just an fyi... if you got the same fuse, might want to replace/upgrade the fuse and fuse holder |

I had some random name brand downpipe, tanabe hypermedallion catback, apexi intake and a turbo smart boost contorler@ 12psi on a dying turbo, And still on the stock elbow. I had mine dynoed in red deer on a mustang dyno. |

No way man! I do not want your car with in 500 feet of mine. I am afraid it may catch what ever my car has. I think it is a self destruct mode of some sort.
I would be interested. A few of us in the club are going to get together to dyno sometime in Aug/Sept.
I plan to go back to Apex Modified. Elijah;'s a good guy and stuff came up that was beyond his control.
I thought long and hard and even if I still have the spot tomorrow I will cancel. I am not fond of people getting mad at me for "not showing' because they can not read their own schedule and seem to forget that they replied to my pm to confirm only a few short days before. It certainly makes me question what may be missed during the tune that they "forgot to look at or take into consideration". I called last night and the voice mail was full. Granted it was 10:00 pm so I did not expect to get a hold of anyone.
Since I have canceled my dyno, I have started to install my new intercooler. I sold my stock one to Dan as I found out when I was cleaning it, he had a massive hole in it. I just need to mount it and run the piping. That will be tomorrows project after we turn over his supra and listen to it run for the first time.
SilverNeonRacer,
Sorry for the delayed reply. I was down in Calgary for SCC, then made a quick trip to Lethbridge to pick up my head and back to Edmonton the same day. I have been living in my garage since Sunday morning. Marc and my self have been helping with the 89 NA conversion to a Turbo conversion on a friends supra which is in my garage. Just need to connect the fuel line on the bottom of the motor and we can turn it over to watch it run, or burn to the ground.
Thanks for the info on the fuse. I am not certain as to what fuse I am running. I will need to double check it. I have the power running of the drivers side fuse box so it is tied into the ignition. The fans are always on as long as the key is turned to the ACC position. I decided to not install the sensors, etc as it was too much of a hassle and I would rather have them running all the time like the stock fan was.
v8less, it is a 7MGTE
doom,
The boost controller is a APEX-i AVCR. I was running 10 PSI. The tanabe is a nice exhaust. That is the one I originally ordered. My order was shipped incorrectly and I was sent the HKS Dragger in error. I decided to keep the dragger rather than send it back. I notified the co and I was willing to pay the difference as after seeing it I wanted it more. They only wanted me to pay $50.00 more than the tanabe which was still alot less than the dragger. :D
My goal is to make it into 7Mpower with alot more than 400 hp. The 400 hp is the min requirement. I am greedy, I want more! :D

Ya you may wanna double check that :P I lucked out and was in stop and go traffic when mine went poof, so I saw the smoke.
I do know the fans pull over 20A, as an interm solution all I had was a 20A fuse from my HID's... and that popped real fast, well first turn on. And I'm not even running the flex-a-lite fans, I'm running fans that have a higher cfm, but lower current draw, just used part of the flex-a-lite harness.
Now it did take months for my fuse to melt and go poof into flames, but I'm also running the thermostatic controller.. my fans run normally 50-60% power if at all... yours running 100% full out go poof sooner if you do havethe smaller fuse, also are you running a relay or did you just tap into an existing fuse? |

Sorry man,
I will post up again. I called a little earlier this morning to cancel the dyno. I did not bother to check to see if I was double booked or not.
Knowing that I was going to cancel the dyno, last night I removed the IC and piping and installed it in Dans supra.. I just need to install the new one and the piping I picked up on Saturday. I also picked up the head from Lethbridge after SCC. :D
Since the earliest I can get a replacement MAF is going to be August 18th ish, I might order up another metal head gasket, do the valve seals in the head and install the new head. :D I have the HKS 1.2mm bead gasket in there right now, but I do not think I can reuse it, nor do I want to with a different head.
I will dyno tune with the new IC and piping on. I am torn if I want to dyno tune it as it stands, or to install the new head too and dyno tune it all at once. I would like to see just what gains I will receive from the head install after everything has been installed. I like to know exactly what parts gave me what, or combination of upgrades will give me. I do not want to do it all and have the answer of "I dunno, I just took it in, they installed all my parts and this is the end result"
I like to pull a few wrenches, bleed, drink beer or pop and have a good time. Then see what the fruits of my labour bring me asides from blown turbo's. :D
Sorry to hear about the yard work. Tonight is Day 3 of intensive work on Dans car. We are almost complete the 89NA Supra conversion to a Turbo Supra. The engine is from an 87 Turbo car which he purchased complete asides from some small pole damage to the passenger side rear quarter. Everything is bolted in and all that is left is a small fuel line to connect at the bottom of the block, then we install the battery, grab a few fire extinguishers and turn it over. :D If that is a success, then we install the fenders, and replace the rear hatch that he received from the parts car.
When I rebook the dyno I will post up. There might be a few other guys getting dyno pulls and tunes also. We are trying to co-ordinate our cars so it will be profitable for the shop that does it an also brings in a few other people to hopefully do business with them..:D
One of these days I will rescue you from your yard work!

Good to know. :D
We just tapped into the fuseblock to run the power source. We also have a relay for the fans. It is an OEM Toyota one. I am not certain the amperage for the relay. I will check that, I am sure it is high. I will also check the fuse that was given with the fans. I know with the fans always on, the draw for power is quite high and I think it puts a strain on the alternator at idle. The readings on the battery are at 12 Volts, When I am boosting around town, the volts jump to 13 to 14 ish. This seems to be a side effect I can live with. I am considering getting a spare, (yet fried) alternator I have rewond to 100 amps. This is 20 amps more than the factory turbo one and should be sufficient to handle the power draw, recharge the battery more effectively and kill anyone who touches anything electrical when the engine is running.

I had a 78A alt in my car, I bumpped it up to a 114A, seems much more happy, but if I'm running hot and the fans are running all out I can see the draw... |
|

| i had the same flex a lite fans on my car as well, never had a problem with anything. i had a 90amp alternator, stock was 65.... peak draw on those fans is rated at 20amps, but unless i was cruising at low speed or idling then the fans never turned on since i had no AC stuff and i had a IC block off plate installed. |

subracing was in a VERY bad state of chaos and I even got screwed over by the previous employees. But I have to give Blaine alot of credit because I called him, told him the story, and he took care of the problem immediately no questions asked! Blaine seems to be doing what he can to rectify the past issues customers had with subracing, or at least my issues, so that is pretty stand up in my books.
