viper1984
do anyone know if there is a fuse for the horn?? if so where is it located?? its it just that box by the cpu that everyone cleans up and changes??

Any advice on what to check to get my horn working would be great. thanks

powermetal
yah there should be a horn fuse. to be honest iv never looked at the fuse box in a 2nd or 3rd gen
but it should be under drives dash, by your feet. teh lid for it will have a picture showing what evry fuse is for.

viper1984
i took a look under the dash and there is nothing that says horn. do you think it could be another name??

Mobius
If you're looking for a burn fuse, start pulling them one by one and check them with a meter. It will be in the fuse box by the dead pedal for a second gen.

In any case, the horn is not on it's own circuit. It is a 20A fuse and is on with the brake lights/cruise control. At least according to the wiring diagrams.

so if the brake lights are working then no need to check it.

viper1984
ok... well my brake lights are working so then it would be that module that everyone seems to have problems with connections breaking??

Your idiot lights? The horn isn't connected through your idiot lights. Check all the fuses anyways, I could be wrong.

viper1984
well its odd... I just checked all my fuses last night and they looked good. I pressed them down to make sure they were good, and my horn didn't work still. I drove the car to work and on the way back from work I decided to try the horn and it worked again. hopefully it stays that way. Thanks again everyone.

I believe the horn has a relay in the CPU, so if that is the module you were talking about then it could very well be a loose solder connection.

viper1984
ya, I heard its a common problem for 2nd gens. I read on how to fix that so hopefully it stays ok. thanks for your help.

viper1984
Does anyone have some extra power window switches that they would be willing to sell to me for cheap?? or lend me a set to test my power windows and see if its the switches causing it not to work?

Also wondering if anyone has that black trim plate that goes behind the drivers mirror, kind of broke mine when taking the door panel off. thank everyone.

viper1984
Does anyone know if I need to drain the power steering system if the fluid ran low?? or can I fill it and then just bleed the air out of the system??

What would cause the power steering to loose fluid so fast?? I never see any fluid on the floor under the car. would it be lots of fluid?

Could the engine possibly be ruined??

thanks

now
just fill it, nothing else needed.

Could the engine possibly be ruined??
what make you ask this?
matt

The power steering does not affect the integrity of the engine in any way. How do you know that it lost fluid fast? If it did, you'd see the leak.

viper1984
I was reading the FSM and it said not to start the car while no fluid was in the system.I started the car and tried to drive it.

I had the motor rebuild less that 1000km ago.

just add more fluid to the power steering pump and you should be good.
your not going to hurt the motor, might have hurt the pump but
thats not going to hurt the motor, if you find you need a new pump
let me know i have some here some place that you
could have for nothing.
matt

viper1984
alright sounds good.

Is it true that we should be using ATF type F for power steering??

now
or power steering fluid

viper1984
ok I will give it a shot. thanks

powermetal
it is a good rule of thumb not to mix atf and powersteering fluid, it isnt common, but ive seen a pump pile up in about 30 seconds from mixing the two, best way to check is to just pull a line and see what coems out, ps hluid is clear ish so its easy to differ. and if you have already topped it up with whatever, and nothing has gone wrong, i wouldnt worry about it, jsut keep doing what your doing.

It's clear/yellowish. Vastly different from the standard pink/red of ATF.

viper1984
when i checked the ps fluid it was a light brown color.... will it hurt the ps system that bad if I mix it??

You should be fine, just fill up the PS.

viper1984
ok well the shop hasn't had time to look into the starting problem I have so I went by today to look at it and I used a booster pack to start the car, it started just fine. The moment I took the booster pack off it dies. Does this mean I just need a new battery?? anyone know??

now
even with a poor battery it should keep running sounds like the alternator is bad to me.
matt

viper1984
I picked up a battery today, damn...

hey matt do you have an extra alternator kicking around??

If he doesn't have one, make a trip to some pick 'n pulls. Don't bother calling though, no one has a clue what an RX7 is . But then again, you might get lucky.

If you have an extra $300 lying around, you could get a new or refurbished on...... if you can find one. :p And those are my bleak tidings for the day.

viper1984
hey,

do you know any pick and pulls that have rx7's?? I went to one yesterday and nothing.

now
I just picked up a bunch of parts from a guy in edmonton tonight
and there was a alt. in the package, i hate to part with them
because i dont have extras. it seems that everytime i part
with a alternator one quites on one of my cars.

return that battery! I still have a couple red tops!

If you cant find a alternator at the pick a part on yellowhead
out on the west end let me know and you can pickup this one
i got tonight.
matt

viper1984
i just got a battery yesterday from mazda and used it already. I needed it to move the car back from the shop. I will let you know if the alternator is bad. I am going to check out pick ur part today hopefully. I will let you know what goes on. Thanks

viper1984
hey matt what if I swapped you alternators??

I checked out pick your part and there was an 88 but the entire motor was ripped out.

now
yours will not be worth fixing i looked into that at one time
and parts to fix are more than the cost of getting rebuilt ones.
so once they are no good they are only good for a core to
send back when you pick up a rebuilt.
i can get you a rebuilt for under 200 i think they were 160 or
something like that or we can talk about the one i have.

it might be an idea to meet up at the meeting on sunday and put it in there maybe.
matt

viper1984
alright that sounds good. I will try and drive the rx7 down. I hope it makes it down there.

Hey does anyone know if the alternator has to be a specific model for the TII??

I might pick one up off ebay but I wanna make sure they have the one I need.

now
any one will do the one i have is a TII one
and if you want i will bring it along
