proto5
just got my first ticket on the way home on henday. stupid colorado sitting right behind the 70 sign inbetween lights. couldnt see it cause it was the same color as the sky was that night. anyways i was doing around 90, any ideas on how much the ticket will be? im guessing 150-200

Invalid Zero
So you hate it because it caught you breaking the law? What exactly is the point of this thread?

Your ticket will be one million dollars. [/Dr. Evil]

Godzilla
if you hate it that much then stay off the roads:dunno:

ehos
Use a blocker, never worry about photo radar again. (Never been pulled over for it either).

You reffering to the plastic covers over the license plate? Cause those don't actually work..

gtaylor
lol i just tried to get onto radardetector.net

apparently im banned:dunno:

My photo 'blocker' plate works. I cruise at 20+ on 70-80 roads and about the speed limit on 50-60 roads.

I wouldn't even ride my bike if I didn't have a blocker (how the hell can you go the speed limit on a bike?)

No tickets ever.

The work pretty well on the installations mounted at intersections due to the angle. They don't work so well against vans.

Or wait........I know nothing about traffic and I'm always wrong. So maybe you shouldn't trust that.

every time i pass the photo radar van its always k-band.

DivineRight
Are the blockers those clear covers you put over your license plate?

They tested those blockers on that show "Myth Busters". They were proven to be absolutely useless. Same with the Saran Wrap method, they don't work.

Plus you will get a ticket if you have anything covering your license plate.

Blackout-spec
^ yah maby the one they tested didnt work. i thought the same thing as you until i saw a guy on my block with one.
i walked up to his car and as i walked by, at a certain angle (45 deg or somethin) the plate actually when blank. i was like wtf? IT WORKS!!! i dunno man, guess you have to shop around, but some of them DO work.

anschutz_93
if your car is caught doing double (or better) the speed limit with photo radar do you still get a court apperance?

Depends on what the limit is. If you're doing more than 50 over, yes. People have already reported being issued court dates for photo radar.

anschutz_93
would any punishment other than a fine to the registered owner actually stand up in court due to the fact that they cannot prove who was driving it?

ehos
The one I have says if you get a photo radar ticket, they will pay for the first one. It's well worth the money and I'm happy not to be one of those idiots that's always slamming on the brakes when they think they see a radar buggy.

Hi Kyle,

How likely is it that your licence plate will be exactly at a 45degree angle from the camera on the photo radar vehicle. Vehicles are different sizes and heights. I am pretty sure that all licence plates are not at the same height from the road. I believe there may be a certain minimun height from the road it needs to be, but I could be wrong on that.

I would not waste my money on the plate blocker thing. I would save it for the ticket, buy a radar detector, or not speed. If the fine is an issue, then not speeding is a feasible option.

Mike

Blackout-spec
^ totally true man. but compared to other, this one was actually doing something even if it was minor.

i dont have one, nor do i have a radar detector.
and i wouldnt buy a plate cover either.

no tickets so far!

you just have to be sensible to where you speed.

+speeding usually gets you nowhere, because you just usually get to the next red light faster.

just remember, when you get that 150$ ticket. was it really worth it to save what.. 5min on your trip?
i dont think so.

im not saying i dont speed, but im not constantly going 20 over every where i go. its just sometime you like to go a bit quicker or your running late. like i said, no deflectors or radar on my car, and over 1 yr and no tickets!
and i do speed, almost every day on my way to work... @ 5am though!

99% of this board don't speed to save time. Its cause there driving there car hard for enjoyment.

Blackout-spec

Change that to "99% don't speed to save time. They speed because they are poor drivers" and I think it's closer to being accurate.

Driving a car hard sounds like someone trying to justify their poor driving.

i was looking at the chart with the fines for doing illegal things, nothing photo radar related.

robyn402
so i was doing 15 over and got nailed... i don't wanna sound like i'm a whiney bitch about it.. i sped and got caught, its just very easy to go over the limit abit and not notice in my car...

but what i'm really curious about is; few of my firends said that if theres another car in the picture u can fight it, and specifiically if you can see the other vehicles license plate

true or false?

Depends how the shot is framed. Is it obvious you were the one that was being snapped? If you're perfectly centered and he's barely visible, you won't have much of a chance.

But, you admit to speeding, so suck it up and pay it. If you don't notice your car is speeding, get a bigger speedometer that's better at getting your attention. A proper scan solves that problem. It's NEVER an issue with "the car", it's always a problem with the driver.

robyn402
proper scan?

Look ahead, look in the rearview, look ahead, look at your speedometer, look ahead, look to your left, look ahead, etc.

Should've been explained in drivers ed.

robyn402
lol oh yea, just didn't click in when u said that...

proto5

i dont think so because i went to court for a photo radar ticket....pleaded guilty flat out and still was only issued a fine. fairly steep fine...but that was all.
the judge said if i had of been seen by police and was actually pulled over then you would lose your license for a while. But no for photo radar you can only recieve a fine.
unless they got a picture of your face somehow??:p

Could they prove who was driving? If not......than it isn't the same thing I mentioned at all.
