Hey,
I was wondering... someone brought up an idea on another msg board that if u imported a salvaged evo up here and registered and insured it as a kit car cause apparently u are able to import salvaged vehicles...
is this true? think this would work? I have heard of ppl buying salvaged vehicles, fixing them and flipping them. |

True, you can import salvaged cars, but the problem is that the VIN # would STILL show it as an EVO....and RIV would stop you.....
How about i save you the trouble and sell you mine for, oh $80K?
(that was the last offer i had)...... |

| If the guy was serious about 80k you are nuts for not taking it with the X coming out soon. |

Was the guy on crack? $80000 for an evo   .

He followed me home in his Carrera 4....pulled out his checkbook and wouldn't take no for an answer...you be the judge.....
With the EVO X coming out, i'm not sure that will "de-value" this VIII .....albeit, i myself wouldn't pay $80K for the car ( i "only" paid a hair above $35K for it)....Anyone who thinks that this car is an appreciating investment is also crazy though....
There are true rally enthusiasts out there who would pay a fair dollar for the car......but it's not for sale.
(my Shelby is though)....
Back on topic......my bad for de-railing... |

| A guy in Calgary bought a Toyota MRS, stripped it, and claimed it was a kit car, and built it up. |

I know of a couple guys who brought salvage vehicles from the states. Makes sure you know what you are getting into to. Both of them were F*** up and had to put in more money then they estimated.
I would stay away unless its really light damage and its abvious nothing else is damaged. A front hit could be a subframe replacement or front clip.
My 2 cents. |

Yes, but that guy also had a ton of headaches to go through and brought pretty much only the frame up with him (and a few other pieces). Everything else had to sourced elsewhere and the car had to be significantly different from a stock MR-S. He also had to completely build the thing and have it inspected all the while crossing his fingers and hoping it would be accepted. If it had not been accepted he would have had to immediately sell it to someone in the US or have it confiscated and destroyed.
So, yes, that sort of thing CAN be done, but not without alot of serious thought, planning, and headache. |

| Theres a Asian guy that lives in Banff or Jasper who's selling his Gunmetal Evolution IX MR. I ran into him when driving back through Victoria, he said it was registered and legal. I'd be a bit weary of trying to bring something like that up to Canada, why don't you just wait for the Evolution X ? |

I think there are somthing like 5 Evo 9's in canada from what I remember.
I would have sold mine for 80k without thinking twice.
Actually, no.... I would tell him I'd trade for the porche (depending on the year of coarse) :) |

There are no Evo 9's in Canada but there are 7 or so Evo 8's. |

| I've talked to the owner of the Evolution 9 MR in Hinton, at first I thought it was a normal ralliart lancer with a body kit until I talked to the owner; apparently he got it in last March and somehow registered it, it even had Alberta plates. |

| No clue, all I know is that he wanted 50 something for his IX and he drove off. Must admit that the interiors look alot better than STi's. |

Wow....gotta disagree with you here....i'd rather have the STi interior in my EVO.....everything is too plain jane, all black, and same as the ralliart....
The Blue in the STi might be a little too smurfy for some, but at least it's different and more upscale.... |
