Anyone know a good place to get a rotary balanced? Tried AMS / Prostock / Campbell... all the usuals and no one adapts to rotarys.
If anyone knows of a shop in edmonton that does this please let me know. It was balanced by racing beat at initial build but it now has 15k on it and a new clutch / flywheel assembly.
Just looking for a little high rev piece of mind. Thanks for the help! |

I dont know of anyone in canada that does it.
when you say you changed the flywheel
is that with counter weight of not?
if not then rebalancing shouldnt be needed.

Still have the s5 counterweight that I bought new from mazdatrix for the engine, and was on it w/o incident with a centerforce steel flywheel but i now went with a lighter flywheel and clutch assembly. I know it probably doesnt "NEED" balancing, but its a bridgeport motor so it reves a little higher than stock and i'd rather bite any potential vib. problems in the ass now than find them at 10krpm and have to pull everything again later.
Thanks for the reply though, i guess if it cant be done it cant be done. |

| I DO BELIVE THERE IS A SHOP IN VAN THAT WILL DO THAT, AND SHOULD BE VERY RELIABLE, ILL LOOK INTO IT. |

If its in van dont bother, I was looking to have it done this week or early next week at the latest, and the shipping costs would not be worth the marginal gain. Was hoping it could be done here for <$200.
Thanks for the idea though, maybe next time a rebuild comes up that could be a viable option. |

Your best bet would be RX-7 specialties in Calgary. I'm not 100% sure that they will do this, but this is your best option in Alberta.
Also like was already mentioned you shouldn't have to balance the engine if you kept with a balanced rotating assembaly. IE a s5 front counter weight, s5 rotors, S5 rear counter weight, and aftermarket flywheel.
Balancing isn't a horrible idea, but I have read some information saying that it's quite pointless due to the fact that you can't make up for the weight of the oil that's rotating with the rotors and eccentric shaft.
Also look into a scattershield if your running the engine at higher RPMs like that, not a bad idea.
If you don't mind my asking what apex seals are you using? What have you done for oil pressure modifications?
If I was to build a high rpm rotary motor I would be looking at getting the racing beat lightweight rotors, then the lighter RX8 eccentric shaft, rx8 stat gears (hardened and windowed racing bearing), and Ceramic seals. Then go from there... But thats getting into a larger money setup... |

| lol, well can you think of any other place around that would have the equiptment to balance the internals. Didn't say ANYTHING about the reputation of the shop, just that they may be his best option. |
