| First off, don't bring that ricer shit in here. Also, no stupid answers that waste bandwidth like "Why would you do that?". Thanks :) Anyways, I just wanted to know how you hook up neon tubes in general? Is it easy to wire? What do you hook it up to so it glows? is it switch activated? Thanks guys. |

I put a 9" neon above each foot area and have had nothing but positive comments. I think it looks wicked.
The wiring involved is very simple. Basically you need to find a hot (positive wire) somewhere to get your power from. Connect this positive wire to the neon with a switch wired in between (so you can turn the power on or off) and ground your negative wire. That's basically a quick rundown of everything you need to do, asides from mounting the tube and finding a good spot for your switch.
Hope it helps. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

| Where or what would be a good place to get power from? Perferably not connected right to the battery post. Thanks. |

| :dunno: Everyone has their own opinion when it comes to cars. I personally have those damn led windowwasher lights and my back emblem lights up.(both hooked up to my lights) Then inside I have 2 small neons tubes running off my cigarette lighter. The whole damn thing is blue, so if you wanna hook your ride up.. go ahead! (its still yours.) |

The ones i sell come with a cigarette lighter adapter for the pair? Maybe get one of those. Thats by far the easiet, and to mount them, they come with small screws with pre drilled holes, along with double edged very good mounting tape. But be sure that the surface is clean or they will fall and break and you will be sad :tear:

To run accessories like this I would probly run a wire in from the battery.. to a isolator block inside the cabin. Then you can power anything you need/want from the block itself. It will come in handy when you need to wire other accessories. Such as running lights, neons, chargers, amung other things. Hell it could even be your amplifier power wire.

What is an insulator block? What does it look like? How big is it? Where can I buy one? Is there a fuse in it, or do I have to install one? Thanks guys. |

yup....gotta agree with that. That is the best way of doing it. Very easy to add items into the car, and very easy to take them out.
Go to GREGGS and ask for a fuse block. From the battery, run a wire from there to under the dash(not exactly sure of gauge size, but 10gauge should be plenty...i would have to check for you what I have. This wire you can get at any real car audio place). Place the fuse block there. Also, make sure there is a fuse in the line that runs from the battery to the fuse block(place the fuse no further than 12" from the battery) .
if you have any other questions, feel free to ask |

Ok, so wire it from the positive side of the battery, through the firewall under the dash. I got that. Now another question I have is, what kind of fuse would I need? Is there a specific kind like in size or something? Lastly, why no farther than 12" from the battery? Thanks guys. |

I'd have to disagree with what they suggested to you. if you're asking these kind of questions... it might prove troublesome to run wires this way (although this is a safe and clean way)
you probably would want to tap into your accesory wiring (ie. cigarette lighter) and run it to a switch.. which will activate/deactivate your interior light. very easy to do as long as you can find your acc. wiring. It's a pretty clean way and gets the job done. Probably takes less than 20 mins to do driver and passenger side.
If ou find you're blowing the 7.5A fuse or whatever fuse your car uses, you might want to look into a difference method. But I honestly doubt that'll happen since you'd be running the wattage through the cig. lighter. |

I was just gunna point this out buy you seemed to cover it :)
Depending on what you power off it, you will end up blowing the acc fuse..
With the isolator block method you could even do your stereo and not worry about blowing up the acc fuse...
I am no quite sure why you have to put a fuse in the first foot of wire.. but its always a good idea to do such when dealin with power directly from the battery. Your common waterproofe inline fuse, such as the oen you got with your amp hookup kit will work, or even a ubercheapy one that you pick up from JB's.. cost about 8 dollars, and you get a 40amp fuse. should be enough for anything you needa run..

but for people already runnin power bac to their amps, it would be way easier to just get power from the acc, a 10 guage off the battery is overkill if you're only planning on running a set of 9" neon lights, no? |

its totally overkill, but isnt that what customizing your car is all about? ;)
Nah, its just handy to use the POS wire that comes thru the firewall to power everything. Keeps future wiring to a minimum... And you dont have to tear anything apart to get to it..
I'd be easier and less problematic to do it this way on my car cuz the acc is on a TINY ass fuse, and I'd have to run many wires too close to my shifter.. the isolater block I could run a power cable from the bat and mount it under my dash or something..

ya but if you only ever plan on doing a set of lights there will be no more wiring...
i'm just saying cause i'm lazy, and cheaap, and would rather not have to buy another inline fuse, distributor block, some wire etc...so much easier to grab a 50cent heat shrink and splice into the already fused acc line.
i guess it depends how much power these lights draw, that would be good to know. |

Seeing as neons are more efficient than incandesant bulbs I'd say the current draw would be next to nothing..
You wouldnt need another inline fuse, it could use the same one as your amp uses.. you'd just need to cut the power cord where you mount the distblock, and hook the wires to the terminal.. then your ready to roll.. Its waaay overkill if your only doing neons tho..
your way is much cheaper tho :D

Alright. I have the right images in my head of what to do because wiring my stereo gave me some experience. But anyways, thank you for all of your replys guys, you've helped me 100%

| the best way to hook it up is with a relay you dont need an isolator block or any thing crazy but I do recomend an inline fuse |

| I totally agree with wiring it to the cig lighter wiring... most are 10A fused which is ideal for wiring interior accesories. Neon tubes will draw power in the hundreds of MILLIamps, so no problems there. |

| hehe. What I would do is run a wire from the battery just to righ intise the firewall then put a distributer block. lol. I think that mgiht have been said.. Something else you can do is tap it into the accesory wire from your cd player! lol. or. SInce youreonly gonna be driving at night, run it from the running lights. When they go on your lights go on.. lol. |
