Clutch problems. - Click HERE for Original Thread

Momentum
So this is on an 86 MR2

Okay, so the other day i was driving downtown and all of a sudden my clutch wouldnt let me into any gears at all. Ill try to explain this the best i can.

I have to shift from 1st through 5th without my foot on the clutch, just waiting for the right rpm and sliding the shifter in. Downshifting without the clutch, is hard to do.

coming to a red light, i can pop it into first when im coming to almost a complete stop, and then from there i can keep it idling in 1st gear with the clutch all the way to the floor. If i let my foot off the clutch even a centimetre it stalls.

So basically i can hold the transmission in gear with the clutch, but i cannot shift with the clutch. If im going from first to second, second to third, third to fourth etc, with the clutch down, its impossible. It wont go in no matter what RPM/Speed im at. But if i dont use the clutch, i can pop it in at about 3200rpm.

I already tried bleeding the clutch. Its hydraulic so its not adjustable. Do i have to switch the whole clutch? or is there something else inside that can be switched, like the realease/pilot bearing?

Also, if anyone has switched a clutch on an MR2, how hard is it?

Thanks

sounds like either a clutch slave cylinder or the master cylinder. Check for any external leaks at the clutch master cylinder from inside the firewall.. or you can change the clutch slave cylinder as those are cheaper and easier to replace than the master cylinder

check for leaks along your whole system, from your master (fluid may be on the firewall) all along the line to your slave, could be a bad seal with either your master or slave as posted above as well. also check the pivot on your clutch fork. it dosn't seem to be a clutch problem, rather it seems like it would be in the operating system. (between the pedal and the clutch somewhere)

Well ive been driving it for 4 months now, and the reservoir is still full, so i dont think theres a leak anywhere?

um... so lets get this staight... you can shift with the clutch engaged (no foot on clutch pedal) but you cannot shift with clutch disengaged (pedal to the floor). however you know 100% that your clutch is disengaging completely because when you stop at a light you can leave the car in gear.
doesnt make any sence to me the clutch shouldnt stop you from selecting gears... if its not disengaging completely it would possibly cause a grind and hard to find gears but still allow you to shift.... no different than when the clutch is engaged. possibly its bushings and when you are clutchless shifting you are just throwing into gear harder :dunno:
anyway i would get it checked out before yo messed da tranny badd... how have you been cutchless shifting four months now daily driving? by now you must have reached the status of powershift master or atleast became the revmatch extroidinare

It has only been clutchless for about 2 weeks now.

And i can shift from first to 5th and down again with ease without any grinding without the clutch

I purchased a new clutch already buit everyone is telling me its not the clutch disc. So i dont want to take the tranny out if its not going to solve my problem...

your clutch is not the problem,

same thing happened to me:

there is a couple things that you can try:

1st: there should be a clutch engagment screw, it is located at the connection from your clutch pedal to your master cyclinder. This will allow you to adjust when the clutch pedal engages. Turn this screw to its max and then try it. from there slowly move it back until it feels comfortable to push and release on.

2nd: you can buy and extended push rod(i think they are like $10-$15) but you may have to fiddle with clutch engagement screw after anyways.

if this doesn't work then good luck

I bought the haynes manual and changed the clutch on my mr2, its a huge pain in the ass! I really hope it isnt your clutch that needs replacing for your sake. Good luck getting this solved.

Momentum
All it was was the connecting rod below the clutch pedal needed to be adjusted :dunno:
