best protein powder? - Click HERE for Original Thread

rocklee_86
any suggestions for protein powders you guys have used and had good experiences with?

Thanks

TrevorK
I use Optimum Nutrition - I think it's one of the best Whey Concentrate's out there.

As for isolate's I prefer Syntrax Nectar, as it taste just like juice.

Depends what you are looking for in your pp. taste? do you just want it for plain shakes? ON is pretty good. Also Dymatize nutrition has some great flavours - the butter toffee flavoured one is my favourite, but only if I use it as a protein waffle (mix 1 scoop with some eggwhites and water to liquid consitancy and put in non-stick waffle maker - pure protein but tastes like it should be carbs!) another good one that can be hard to get is PVL chocolate peanut butter. I mix it with eggwhite and water to a pudding-like consistancy and freeze it for about half an hour in a little container - tastes like ice cream or a fudgsicle or something ... or take mocha pp and mix with ice and water (or milk if allowed) and make a frapachino

clearly I had spent too much of my life on ketosis style diets

oh, and I hear the nector ones are very tastey too.

well i was just looking for a protein to be used in shakes, but after hearing about your waffles i think i might have to pick up what you suggested too....those sound way better then eggos

Stick it in everything. Most of us don't get anywhere near enough protein. Put in cereal/oatmeal, make waffles or pancakes with it, stick in smoothies and shakes, etc. Upside is it'll help you feel full where carbs can have you feeling hungry within a few hours even though you've got energy to spare.

These were my saving grace when I was dieting for figure comp. if you dont have a waffle iron, you can just use a small fry pan and make a real thin layer and it is like a crepe - add more water to make it liquidy with the eggwhites and it goes even farther. Used to trick my body into thinking I was actually eating carbs when surviving on nothing but eggwhites, chicken and the odd green bean if I was fortunate enough.

And yes, add pp to lots of things, it will help your total protein intake which alot of people underestimate. You can even get non-flavoured stuff (never tried it myself though). I found the best plain pp in just water for a shake would be chocolate/coffee - the mocha flavour really hides that disgusting aftertaste. (but the waffles are the best - they even poof up like real ones, although they will deflate once removed from the iron... quick cooking, so dont forget them) - put sf syrup ontop, some blueberries, etcetc - good to go!
I just HATE plain shakes, so had to find alternatives

I like ISOBOLIC, by Nutrabolics.

I was taking BioX Power Whey for the last few years, but I like the taste of the Nutrabolics better.

Man… the idea of starving my body of food and nutrients to cut for competition is crazy! I've said it before and I'll say it again, I just don't understand the competition mentality. No different than a beauty contest to me.

That said any protein powder will do, make sure it tastes good to you, I find the isolates make me fart less and remember to always take with Carbs.

I mix my shakes with BioX Whey Isolate Strawberry Banana, Dextrose and Water.

I buy it in bulk, otherwise it's a huge rip-off in Canada.

I only use plain, unflavored and I get mine from either trueprotein.com, allthewhey.com or netrition.com (Now Whey Protein Isolate).

I heard a study last week that the best thing to drink after a workout was milk, because it has all the essential nutrience, acids, protiens and ensimes required for rebuilding torn mucles.Personally i tried every protien shake i could get my hands on and never gained a pound until i started on Creatin.I went from 165 to 195 in about three months and was a ripped 215 at my heaviest.

I was using Lean and Bulk from herbalife for a while until I decided I was gonna just chow down on steaks and chicken.
Yes I know red meat is evil but heh I managed to put on enough weight to hit my goal (192lbs) and stay there for a very long time until I got the stomach flu. So I personally think just eatting actual foods is better but I guess thats just me? :dunno:

Not true about the milk, but that's another topic.

And if you weren't gaining it means you weren't eating enough. Most guys eat like little girls and then wonder why they're small. In fact my tiny girlfriend who also works out regularly eats more than most guys who are supposedly trying to gain weight.

There's also no way in hell you gained 50 lbs from just adding creatine LOL. 5 lbs I would have believed.

If you can wolf down that much real food, it's definitely better. The problem is most lifters (bigger ones anyhow) can't eat enough real food. No way I could eat 4,000 - 5,000 calories without things like raw eggs and protein powder. Even then it's a daily challenge.

hehe I can eat an 8oz steak and feel hungry 1 or 2 hours later :) I sometimes really wonder where all my money goes, this summer I burned off an entire cube freezer full of steaks

Blaze- I grew up on a farm i ate tons of protien(red meat, chicken, eggs&fish).I was 145-155 even after finishing High School.I balooned up to 165 when i quit smoking when i was 25.At 26 i started taking protien shakes to try and gain weight to no avail. The next year is when i went on Creatin, working out three to four times a week.I maintained my weight at 195 for about two years then i started working out at Suncor in camp and working out six days a week.I usually tipped the scales between 205-210 for almost two years. The keys for me was i was able to get at least 10 hours of sleep all the food i could eat(Breakfast-three bowls of quaker oats four to six eggs three glasses of milktwo slices of toast,Lunch-two salmon or tuna sanwiches six hard boiled eggs,Coffee breaks-a banana other fruits veggies thermos of black coffee.Suppers usually consisted of either beef, pork or chicen, vegetables lots of potatoes/gravy and some salad).I allway took at least four hard boiled eggs and two bananas with me for a late night snack(i wake up staving in the middle of my sleep). However when i started working back at home again i couldn't afford to eat like that so i stated losing weight and couldn't get to the gym as often. When i was working out at Club Fit on the south side i maxed out their leg prees machine at 920 pounds of which i would do three sets of eight.I don't know what body type you have but i seem to lean out now that i haven't been to the gym for over two years and am back down to 185.If you believe me or not i could really give a fuck but that was my life.

Blaze
^ That makes more sense. You were eating a shit load more, along with hard work which helped you gain the weight.

You made it sound as if you did nothing but add creatine and gained 50 lbs. You can see where I was skeptical.

CKXtreme
I'm a big fan of PVL. But that's probably a little biased as I sell it, which means I dont exactly pay much for it.

The Syntrax Nectar is great though. You can drink that stuff like water, which is nice after a heavy workout.
