I was driving down a paved country road by sherwood park thinking the speed limit was 100,
Anyways im driving and i see lights flashing up ahead from the oncoming side of traffic, so i look down and my speedo says 100. So i kept going thinking it wasnt for me. The cop turns around and pulls me over saying i was going 111 in an 80.
Now i have no problem paying for going 20 over, i didnt look at any signs to see what the limit was. But where did this other 11 kilometres come from?? I gte home and look and find out that over 30 is an extra demerit and a much higher fine.
By now im pissed, and wondering what to do.
Im still under GDL and cant afford an extra demerit.
Is there any way to prove that he actually clocked me at 111, or that he didnt? Would it be absurd to say that he did this just because im driving an ugly orange mr2? I was still nice to him hoping he would cut me a break, but he just made it worse for me. |

go to traffic court and fight it if you feel you were unlawfully charged for that particular alleged speed. More often than not the prosecution is willing to lower charges if you admit you were speeding but tell them the story and blahblabhblahhhhh take it to trial if you really want... maybe there is inadequate evidence or improperly documented or a mistake in ticketing and the crown will withdraw ? it happens a LOT more than it should...
who knows.. If I was you, I wouldnt back down if I felt I was improperly charged. |

almost every ticket i have ever recieved i have gotten lowered or quashed altogether. all you have to do is go to the court on the day of the ticket, dressed conservatively. you will have to talk with a justice of the peace (i believe thats what they are called, its been a while). just be realistic and reasonably honest and they will usually lower the fine and give you more time to pay up.
if you act like a punk they will definately treat you like a punk, however if you explain that you were merely watching the road and not your speedo, and you have a decent record (and no neck tatoos or facial peircings) they should want to help you out.
i dont know your past record or your finesse with authority, but i always played the broke university student card and have always come out ok.
good luck |
