Desktop computer problem - Click HERE for Original Thread

b18c5crx
I did not buy this computer all that long ago.

maybe a year or so

x2 4200
2gb mem
dual ati's in sli
2x 250 in raid 0
1 x 40 gb
bunch of other useless shit

anyways the computer has only seen 3 weeks of internet way back when i first had it. I personally installed the raid drivers and windows from a dead empty nothingness.

Now the problem i am having presented itself a month or two ago. It would stall on windows start up, the xp loading sceeen. It would try and load for as long as i let it.

I was told to try this and will attempt but i figured i would ask before trying as well.

instructions given to me;
1. xp cd
2. repair hit r
3. type fixboot
5. type y
6. fixMBR
7. type y
8. finish remove cd reboot

any opinions would be helpful at this point.

Sounds like a corrupt driver. Do an interactive boot and see where it hangs.

the only way i know you can see the boot is by changing the boot.ini to log the boot.

i can't get it to boot at all, safe more or not.

I'll try a check disk after reinstalling windows on the other hd.

no, when you boot into repair mode in the windows cd u can run chkdsk /p right after u do the fixboot and crap

b18c5crx
lol it wont let me get there anymore

i am just going to run it on the 40
i think the raid 0 set is fucked.

it will be easier to diagnose it through windows.

Malaria
ok damien do this it will repair windows and get you back up and running.

take your windows xp install disk

place disk in to computer reboot computer and boot off this disk

press the any key to start the xp install process.

now pay attention to the menu options, you want to run the recovery console i forget the keys to get you there but its only 2 menus so you should be able to figure it out.

no once you've started the recovery console you wana press the number for your windows install usualy 1.

then enter your admin password, if you dont have one just press enter

now you should come to a c prompt c:\

now type with out quotes "chkdsk -r"

and let that run, once its done reboot take out the windows cd and load windows, the process usualy takes 30min-2hrs depending how much you fucked the computer up

if that dosent work i got a few tools to get windows back up and running

b18c5crx
well i went ahead and said screw you guys.

installed xp home edition on my 40gb drive.

boots fine, go to look for the raid set and i can't find it:dunno:

So i begin installing drivers, and while installing my ati drivers my screen loses input. I reboot the comp and up comes my XP pro on my raid set.

rebooted it a number of time after backing all 250 gb up onto a bunch of dvdr's and no issues.

time for a reformat.
