I was out and about today in the Park. While waiting at a red light I got to witness a young teenager get hit by a car. The kid was on his bike, riding accross the intersection, and the car was going into the turn kinda fast, about 40-50. (as far as I could tell, she slid for a good 20ft before hitting the kid) When I heard the tires lockup I looked over to see a kid bounce off the hood, and onto the pavement. Right then and there I had the urge to get out of my car, but the intersection was kinda busy, and I didn't want to tie up traffic. So I waited for the light to turn green, turned left, and pulled over.
I called the cops.
As I looked up from the phone, I saw the car pull away and the kid was walking around in a bit of a daze. I told the cops everything I saw, and they sent a car over. In the meanwhile, I went over to check on the kid. He was ok, just a few scrapes on his leg, and I think he badly bruised his hip.
Unfortunently, from my vantage I couldn't see the back of the car to get the plate. I was gonna read it off as I talked to the cops, but the car drove away..
Out of some 15 cars that witnessed the event, I was the only one to stop.. :(
I feel bad for not tying up traffic..

Damn right i'd get out and help! :) I'd park it right in the middle of traffic ..

| well, you did what you had to do, if you stopped in the middle of traffic chances are you would of gotten hit by a car too if the traffic was heavy enough |

Somebody that does that deserves to be beaten. I'm usually a pretty reserved person, I've never started a fight in my life, but if someone tried to ditch the scene of an accident like that, I would chase them down and literally beat them. There is no excuse for this sort of thing, I hope that the kid is going to be alright, and I also hope that the asshole comes forward.

I was gonna chase them down, cept there was a median sperating us, and well.. civic's just don't hop curbs.. :( The kid's ok, he was lucky. If he was walking his bike accross the intersection like he was supposed to, that accident would have been much more serious, and he was wearing his helmet..
I really wish i would have gotten the plate tho, abandoning the scene of an accident isn't much of a charge, but in my eye's it was a hit and run, and given the attitude comming from the driver it could almost be called assult. Apparently, according to the driver, it was the kids fault for crossing at a crosswalk, not her fault for speeding into the corner.. geepers, this still gets me all worked up...

My lawyer said it was 7 demerits and is one of the worst charges you can get... careless driving, dui, etc are less... but not by much. |

It's a baby blue Tempo or Topaz 2dr. Mid to late 80's or so and the paints slightly faded on the hood... The chick driving it was around 40+ kinda bulky, grey hair (stringy and a bit longer than her shoulders) and thick glasses.
Unfortunently thats all I can remember, I never really got a good look at it.. :( |
