Now that you've seen the car..... - Click HERE for Original Thread

Heeter
I have booked some time at a body shop for a paint job in September (I want to enjoy driving the summer away). I am replacing the nose of the car, no matter what, as this one is too far along to fix.

I am still debating myself on whether I should stay all original, as in paint and kit effects, original paint with new kit, or go new color all together and drop the two tone. So far, my heart is set on keeping it original, or switching all to solid green top to bottom.

Your thoughts will be welcome and very seriously considered. I only will give it one time, so something I will be able to live for the next few years and not just a passing summer fad.

Maybe a solid, bold color with some "Silent Rage" style graphics.

If your going to go with a different color.. green. Then you should change up the nose. I havent looked at many bodykits for an mkI, so i cant really name any that are nice. I definatly think the nose is out of place when its not a stock color.. It just doesnt seem to "flow" to me..

There is an orange mkI all the time, and the front end just likes "weird" compared to one with a stock paint job...

and maybe the spoiler, find something that is totally different.. I know that a dodge shadow spoiler would probly fit.... if anything it'd have to be cut, so its not as wide.. I am not familer with how the rear decklid opens or the shape of it.. worth a look tho :)

How much it would cost you to do the paint job?

Avoid Maaco like the plague. I went to get a friend's car painted. They sign a contract then just before starting on the job, a manager jacked the price up by $100.

I have more maaco examples if you like :)

Save yourself the hassle..

ND4SPD,

This shop is doing it for $3000, including swapping out the front end with another, replacing a part of my side skirt, and replacing the plastic rear bumper. An dfixing the rust. A 2 base, 4clearcoat application (I think he said). Oven Roasted too!!! This is based on me keeping all original parts.

SplineZ, Thanks for the input, bud. Really appreciate it. BTW, whats your avatar doing, that letter "P" is kinda crooked.......Oh! Okay! just realized what it is doing. LOL.

Replacing the front end? lucky for you to have a parts car...
Anyways, do you have a drive side fender rust free? I need one :(

Does it include rust repair? what's the name of the shop?
Maybe I can bring my ride there for an estimate...

Does ur ride also have rust? Mine has in the rear wells...as always...being a trademark of TOYOTA :D

Heeter: Everybody has their own preference on what they want their mr2 to look like. Personally I love to have a all white 89 SC with the stock kit. IMO I think the car looks much cleaner with the stock kit. Other colors I would go with is silver. I talk to a owner here in Edmonton with a silver and my god the car looked stunning.

If you want to change the front end a bit Toysports makes a front lip for our cars which is very clean looking. Also FX designs makes 2 front ends for our cars. One is a stock looking 1 piece front lip and the other is their combat front end. Instead of retaing the stock 86 front end you can go and upgrade to the 87 + front lip which looks like what I have on my car. Anyways these are a couple ideas to help you with your decision. Good luck. B)

Thanks for the input, Super.

Like I said, I do need a nose peice for her. Sounds like I will be going with all original body, maybe add that lip (Not sure), I am almost certain that I will be ditching that two tone, and go with a solid color. I am thinking adding some minor graphics work to the sides, nothing overpowering. I guess I just want to get all my eggs in a basket, decision wise, before I drop the car off. Is there someway I can have a gander at that Toysports front? Maybe a website or a car around town.

Heeter => Working with my friend when installing my bodykit at his shop he gave me the down low on painting.. OvenBaking is actually not the best thing in regards to quality... It is actually more of a convenience meaning the shop can have your car in and out back to you more faster... the consequence is that you lose some of the gloss on the clearcoat than if you just had it naturally air dry on it's own..
anyways that's jus my two cents for today ;)

Heeter
Thanks for heads up, Turbo.

I did not know that. Maybe I could pick your brains a little more concerning paint, if you don't mind. Maybe at the next meet as well. I still haven't dropped by your friend's place on 156street, I will go there hopefully by week's end.

BTW, Turbo

I think I found someone for your springs, He is in Hinton. MKII, don't now what year, though. I will keep you informed.

Turbo,

How much did it cost you? Maybe you can refer us to your friend...It will be good business for him too.

Heeter => haha i'm no expert at painting.. but i defintaly learned alot working with my friend at his shop..
espcially working on the kit for my car...
i'd be more than happy to share what i've learned with you guys...

ND4SPD => It was pretty much material I was paying for.. considering all the time we took to took to put together the kit.. The catch was that I had to help in putting it together .. fitting, sanding mostly...priming and painting I didn't even want to attempt trying it expecially on my car, and being it it would be my first time if I ever did... Leave it to the expert for that..
