Hi,
Glad to hear there's an MR2 Edmonton board....FINALLY!
Anyway, I haven't met anyone of you guys...I was referred here by Billy
I have an '85 MK1 which I recently purchased...it came all the way from B.C. previous owner drove it here...to see WEM :D
Hopefully you can help me guys fine tune it 'coz Im new to the MR2 world.
I brought it to a TOYOTA dealership..but they said there's a possibility of rebuild (it take about $7,000 to do total rebuilt accd. to TOYOTA dealership  )
I know rotors need to be replaced or resurfaced 'coz the steering wheel shakes whn braking from 60kms.....
Also, there's a mystery leak of which I know to be a gasket.
So, what do you suggest I do first? Thanks guys n gals! |

Welcome to the Site, ND4SPD
Do The brakes, that is the first. Go to Parts Source, tell them you are a club card member, even if you know your not, and the brakes are like 40% off. I just redid mine two weekends ago (1986MK1). I purchased pads all four corners, two front rotors, 1 Litre of Dot3 (I drained the old stuff out of the system and put in fresh, It needed it bad!! Old fluid was foaming) All this for about $170,00. This is all direct replacement parts, no upgrading happening here.

Thanks heeter,
Yeah I went to Part Source few weeks back....BUT are there any shops that specializes in MR2?
How EASY is it to replace brake system? How long did it took you? too bad I don't have a garage to work on...
Are there reliable shops that can do this? I know it would cost an ARM & LEG. |

I found it pretty easy, I guess.
It took me about a half hour each corner for the straight swap of new parts. About an hour to completely bleed out the system. Hard to say, though. I found it easy, but the next person might of found it the worst nightmare of their lives. As for the shop, the brake setup on an MR2 is quite frankly, pretty standard fair, any shop can do it. If you are looking for a parts shop for MR2, "I&M imports" carry lots of parts. I actually gotta phone there tomorrow as I have to replace my strut rod bushings, hopefully this weekend. (I need an alignment and the shops won't touch it until those bushings are replaced) Toyota wants $100 a corner for those things. :o I gotta see if they have it.

Heeter,
Maybe we could meet up when you're buying those parts...and have little chat.
How long have you owned your 2?
I also wanna do a DIY..but I want to learn from an experienced one :)
BTW, which part of Edmonton are you located? |

I have been an MR2 owner since last summer, and after using it as a snowplow this past winter, I am finally putting a few bucks into her.
As for experienced, An MR2 is still new to me as well. I am still learning a lot from it. I think SuperMR2 (our fearless MR2 club leader) also does lots of his own work as well. Talkin' to him, He certainly knows his mister2's!!!
I am going to phone tomorrow (I&M Imports) to see if they do carry those parts that I need, and if they do, yeah sure we could get together. Also, posting your question in here, will net you the brain power of a few MR2 owner's, not just one!!! Everyone is great and easy going in here, I have found. Email me: heetered@msn.com

Thanks for the warm welcome guys...I hope I could come to your next meet.
But seeing all your rides from the 2F2F meet....I feel inferior 'coz I got a SH*tty ride :crying:
Near oxidized paint, couple of wheel well rust...BONE STOCK! At least my ride may become the BEAST compared to the "BEAUTIES" :D |
