SCC Edmonton - Cancelled? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Z_Fan
Cancelled due to lack of competitors.

That's incredible.

I wish I had a crystal ball like that one. I would have sold all my stocks two weeks ago and bought them back on Friday. :dunno:

How exactly is it known how many competitors will be there on September 1st? Well, now I guess it's zero. :dunno:

shawley
where does it say cancled?

that sucks

SCC CANCELED

The SCC Sport Compact Challenge event scheduled for Saturday September 1st has been cancelled due to a lack of competitor interest. The SCC organizers will be re-visiting the structure of this event and look forward to returning with a bigger event in 2008.

I think the turnout would have been way better than in Calgary. Just a guess. Even on a long weekend. Edmonton has a better track, and as a drag racer, I'd go just for that reason alone.

Or they could let the event run, weather irregardless.

You may not be able to drag race, but we can autocross in the wet without any danger, and it's exciting to watch.

RotaryJunkie13B
i went down to calgary for it and it sucked. i was looking forward to this but what ever fuck it then

shawley
well i for one expect money back for my scc round one in edmonton ticket

i bought a ticket, took my aristo there when it was BONE stock to drag race, and they call it off due to weather, when really the weather was just fine, and just lack of people

i bought the ticket, went in there then 5 min later was told it was off, so i was mad but like whatever okay, they will let me use it at the next edmonton because it's castrol raceway

so waiting for the edmonton one, so i could redeme my ticket

but now no?

markis can i have the $25 back? please?

Z_Fan
I'm also disappointed to find out about it on Castrol's website. Not on the forums or their website.

newred
WOW, sad. No wonder why they can't anyone to come out.

srt-4toys
i want my money back from the first one as well

NYGACR
Same here. I'd like a refund.

oh wow, edmonton would have been much better then calgary.

everyone knows that one:dunno:

Z_Fan
Honestly I don't understand why it was cancelled.

Just because Calgary wasn't that great doesn't mean the same thing would happen in Edmonton. I'm reasonably sure the turnout would have been much better.

RotaryJunkie13B
well i know more ppl that were going to attend and enter then i saw at calgary so i dunno wtf is going on but what ever.

shawley
theres probaly no convincing v8less to change their mind is there?

Z_Fan
Oh I would expect not.

I don't understand the mentality. Sorry, but I don't. In the face of adversity, try try again. Don't quit - and that is how I view this. It could all be financial. I don't know who gets stuck with the bill if the track runs the event and the support is not there.

While the event may need several things reassessed, it did fly very well in 2005 in both Alberta cities IMO. Rain was the problem in 2006 for Edmonton, and Calgary (IMO) was just a very bad date (basically winter in October) - and people still did come out to that one. Crappy weather again plagued Edmonton in 2007. Calgary I thought had a good day with a poor turnout. More likely due to the long weekend than anything else. I honestly think Edmonton this year would have been much better turnout than Calgary, though probably not as good as at the 2005 event.

Anyhow, I hope it pours rain September 1st in Edmonton. That will make me smile.

arabian_ryda
so this whole summer there was only 1 scc event and it was in calgary. this is retarded. maybe if they advertised some what it wouldnt be so bad they cant expect people to just show up out of anywhere. one radio comerical and scc would be a unreal big hit. they always get canceled and never rescheculed

Xtra_X
That blows, but at least I didn't have to drive out there to be sent home this time.

1 thing I think they may need to address to increase paticipation is to have the Sport compact division further broken down. I mean I'd love to run but I'd feel rather foolish in my ZX2, even now in my Soarer I wouldn't stand a chance.

Bracket racing? I don't know.

FYI

Competitors with Rain-out Slips from May 19 will be refunded. Castrol Raceway is working out the logistics in providing refunds and the details will posted on this site as soon as it is available.

and showed them the banner we had in the shop

alota people were like yea we'll be there

guess not anymore

Another thing that might help is allow people to use slicks and dont put them in the exhibition class. Yes this is suppose to be a street car shoot out but there are a lot of fast FWD cars out there and I would rather see them run a low 11 then a mid 12.

nismokutz
yeah, i wanted to go on the first also..i was lookin forward to it also. ......

Agreed, considering pretty much all of them are driven on the street all the time.

Seems a lot of people are bumed that SCC Edmonton is cancelled, but it takes a lot of work and money to make those events happen. If they feel that they can't cover their costs then I don't blame them. At least they are trying and I hope they come back stronger next season.

If you are still interested in coming out to Castrol on Saturday,
d-sport.ca is having a full day Drift Practice starting at 1pm-9pm.

Would you guys be interested in using your SCC tickets as a two
day pass for the d-sport events that weekend IF i could arrange that???

Honouring their tickets would be cool but you'd probably only get a few handful... out of all the people who bought tickets to go drag racing that day, probably only a small percentage will go drifting as well.

Well, I am probably talking out of my asshole... so I could be wrong..

NYGACR
I'm not interested in the drifting event, I'd like a cash refund. Is there someone I can get in contact with to arrange this?

SowndWave
Yea, I'd love to use mine as a pass for the drifting, but I wont be in town anyways so I'm out of luck. Whats this about a cash refund, you know, something that should have happened THE DAY OF cancellation???

Hopefully when that's arranged it will be posted in an easy to find place...???

raceready68
Not suprised at all the Edmonton events get rained out everytime and never have a rain out day. No one wants to drive to calgary to race on a worse track that is why the calgary turn out was so bad.

Edmonton would have been a really good turn out this yr because no one got to compeat last yr do to rain and then again rain this yr.
