Would you donate your organs at death? - Click HERE for Original Thread

REFLUX
Organ donor when you die?

Or no?

ChromeDragon
Terry, you can't find a woman to donate your organ to while you're alive, what makes you think they'll want it when you're dead?:p

newaccorddriver
im all up for giving away my organs when i die, but isnt there a point where your organs are next to useless when your like 90 or something?

arabian_ryda

no

stealth
Yes I would.

Answermid
I would when I die because you never know if you can save some ones life and make their life extended. The way I think of it is I'm going to rot anyways why not give another person a chance.

Most definatley. I'm not going ask to be buried with my house, cars and everything else when I die. Why keep something you cant use if you can make someone elses life better with it?

Exactly, I won't be needing them.

4thGenLude
I'm never gunna die.

Haha in all honesty.. no I don't think I'll be donating them.
Maybe certain ones, but definitely not the liver.

I don't want my organs going into some drunk who's wasted away their lives. If I could save someone who is innocent, especially a kid, I would in a heartbeat.. or lack there of.. but you get the point :p

And ArabianRyda (I forgot your name).. you do know you're going to be cut open regardless right? lol

not necessarily some religions require the body buried within 24hrs, hence he wouldn't need to be cut open,.... unless there is,foul play suspicion then he'd get the full meal deal autopsy.

no I dont think I would donate, because not all times is your body/ auto parts used for saving people's lives. sometimes if it too dismember (car crash) they have UofA students work on you for years to come-cadaver! yikes.

Godzilla
absolutly, i lost a friend in a car accident a couple of years ago. one of the comforting things about the tradgedy was that her organs were used to save others lives.

Exactly, I would give them to peopl who are dying and need them. Not for people to cut open and research.

I think so. if I dont need them then why not put them to good use for someone else. I cant imagine what it would be like to be waiting on a donor list.

jordanturbo
I am very iffy on the subject, If they were going to be used to save a life then definatley, but there have been reports that organ donors have had their organs sold for top dollar to universities for research which I would not want happening, unless my family was to see some of that money.

fuck paying for life insurance ill just sell my heart to theU of A for 20g's

Invalid Zero
Yes to organs. No to tissues, eyes, etc.

And definetly not for research. Just to help others in need.

lowslowcorrado
Keep in mind ultimatley your organs being researched(especially if it is the organ that caused your death)on a different level is saving lives. I do have a serious problem with the idea of selling the organs though. If the organs are useable, give them to someone who needs them. If they aren't, cut them the fuck open and figure out how to fix them for the next person it happens to.

Invalid Zero
I'm very well aware of that. But I'm still not down with it.

its like living everyday like your last since you never know when that particular organ can fail you when your waiting for one

Bad Egg
You can select organ donation only, or specify any use, including research and medical school use. If you don't want your school buddies at U of A cutting you up, just choose the needed organs & tissues only option. If you have more specific wishes, maybe it could be put in a "Living Will", a document that sets out your instructions for treatment, etc., if you are unable to communicate.

In some countries they have organ donation as the default, unless you specifically opt out of it. That is the way it should be, IMHO. Opt out if you feel strongly about it, but why not give someone else a chance at life when you are gone. It's not going to cost you anything.
