bestbuy psp plan question? - Click HERE for Original Thread

type r
So i purchased an ipod from bestbuy 2 month's ago, and purchased a PSP plan for it as well.

The guy I was dealing with said if something goes wrong with it just bring it back and they will replace it(under the psp plan)

So my ipod is having overheating issues where if i charge it, it will not charge and overheats.

So I took it back to bestbuy today and show them my receipt and the guy pretty much tells me that I have to send it into apple on my own and deal with it under the manufacturers warranty and that my psp plan dosn't come into effect until the manufacturers is over.

This makes no sense to me as I purchased a 2 year plan which expires july 2009 but for some reason this guy tell me it dosnt start until july 2008?

Is this guy actually right ?

Thanks in advance

yes this is correct. Unfornatley apple wants the customer to deal with them first. If Apple does charge you anything best buy pays you back for it. If you are getting any push back best buy will also help you out. Its not that there pushing you off, its jus that if they send it out, after 2weeks or so they'll recieve a note w/ your ipod not fixed saying contact apple. Apple refuses best buy's service depot to touch it within the manufacture warranty. Some manufactures are just picky like that. Microsoft is like that as well.

hope that helps!

Apple has a great warranty policy.

I had an issue with a 1st gen ipod years ago. It was within the first year and they sent me a box. I packaged it.........within the week I received a new one. The old one was unrepairable.

Good experience.

P.S I never buy those service plans. A waste in my opinion.

Hi type r

Every store has a different return/exchange/warranty policy. It can be frustrating sometimes. But what others have mentioned sounds about right for Best Buy.

Personally, I never purchase an extended warranty. Reason why is I put it on my Visa Card. The card doubles the manufactures warranty up to one additional year on most items, plus I have purchase security in the event someone ripps off what I purchased (up to a limited time). http://www.rbcroyalbank.com/RBC:Rsx.../purch_sec.html

I recently got a visa card from ATB...but it doesn't let me double the manufacturers warranty up to one additional year on items...can i ask what visa card you have that enables you to do so?

That is because the ATB Card is Mastercard. Different credit company. The major ones are Visa, Mastercard, AMEX (American Express).

Visa and MC, are the most accepted cards. More retailers are starting to accept the AMEX.

I have the RBC Visa Platinum Avion. http://www.rbcroyalbank.com/cards/personal/avion_p.html

i have to agree, ipod has the best warranty ever. I have abused it like no others have abused it. 8 pairs of ipod headphones, 1 repair fully covered including refurbishing and 2 brand new ones over the course of 3 years. My warranty of 3 years just came to an end :( but the week before it did i got a brand new one so its good to go for at least a year and a half

if someone thinks the math doesnt work, i bought an open boxed one after my first one got stolen and 1 month later sent it out for warranty and got a brand new one.

hey thats what I am hoping will happen.

Do you know after how long I get a new one? Will they call me and tell me I just get a new one or will I have to call them on it?

Thanks

u will get a new one under the following conditions

- ur ipod ends up being too costly to repair (repair is more then what the ipod is currently worth, not worth it for the company to fix)

- takes longer then 60 days for ur unit to come back repaired

- the same problem happens 3 or more times (problem must be documented all 3 times for it to qualify) <-- this is probably ur first time so this will not qualify for u

I am a service plan guru, i pretty much know how it works inside out... alot of ppl think best buy scams ppl b/c they think its some "extended warranty" like what visions or someone offers but usually well do whatever we can(within our power) to help the customer out cause best buy lives and breaths "customer loyalty"

when u get a call from our store saying ur item is back in, well let u know whether its been fixed or ur getting a replacement (atleast i did when i called ppl) i usually tell them so i can make sure they bring all the accessories back.
