From Legendary Beauty to Action Heroine? - Click HERE for Original Thread

By her own admission, this Madam White Snake is no gongfu chick. But Fann Wong could certainly do a credible job of acting like one — if the reaction from director David Dobkin was anything to go by.

In case you haven’t heard, Dobkin is the director of Jackie Chan’s latest Hollywood outing, Shanghai Knight. The action-comedy, a sequel to Shanghai Noon, is once again teamed up with Jackie and Owen Wilson.

Accompanied by her manager, Fann met Dobkin in London 2 months ago to discuss a role in the movie.

“I didn’t know what was in store for me when I flew over. But Dobkin was really enthusiastic and sincere and that put me at ease,” Fann told Today.

“Dobkin told me about the role — the sister of Jackie’s character — and asked me to act out a few scenes on the spot.”

According to Fann’s manager, Dobkin described Fann as “a great actress” and “fits the role very well”.

With Jackie’s movies well known for being explosive action movies, is Fann apprehensive that she will be required to be a gongfu chick, a la Zhang Ziyi, or perform stunts?

“Yes!” the Caldecott princess said.

“I was afraid Dobkin would think that all Chinese know gongfu. When I met him, I kept stressing that I couldn’t fight and what he saw in tapes of my period dramas was just acting!”

And, yes, the thought of starring alongside Jackie in a Hollywood film is overwhelming, Fann said.

If the deal goes through, it will mark Fann’s 3rd film after The Truth About Jane and Sam and Hong Kong film When I Fall in Love … With Both.

“I’ve often been cast in period dramas. Maybe I can pick up some gong-fu from Jackie,” she joked.

Fann, who has been filming in Shanghai for a regional drama production, returned to Singapore on Monday for Tian Po Jewelry’s Aurias diamonds launch.

Fann is now the Singapore ambassador for Aurias.

Stroking her sparkling white gold and diamond ring worth $26,000, Fann said: “My birthday has come early.” She turns 31 on Jan 27.

And it will be icing on the birthday cake if she can find time to release an album by the end of the year. Fann is so busy that she had to turn down a role offered by Young Pei Pei, the executive producer of her last period drama, Madam White Snake.
