Do you have a good work-life balance? - Click HERE for Original Thread

How does your "work-life balance" look in your eyes?

POX
Mines Satifactory. I get an on call phone maybe once or twice a week, and it hardly ever rings. but i tend let mistakes at work fallow me home.

My job follows me home at night or I end up working all day, doesn't leave time for much of a life. Around christmas I end up working 6-7 days a week 10-12 hours a shift. Retail Sucks

So so!

It seems like I NEVER work in my own town anymore. Heck, I'm hardly in my home TIME-ZONE even! I'm gone for a week at a time or more... My concept of time is completely fucked, one minute it's spring, the next, it's friggin fall

I don't think I have a good work-life balance at all. I spend days at a time at work and seem to only have time for myself on weekends (Which I used to have to work as well).

However, I am happy with the choices that I've made in regards to the work-life balance.

37.5hrs/wk works for me :D

I do work outta town quite often and it takes me across canada. the hours are usually long 10-16hr days but I work maybe 8 of 12 months the year and make enough to live more than comfortably

Fazda
i'd go with good

It's usually awesome, I wake up casually, stroll into the office about 9:30ish, take lunch from noon till whenever I get back then if I'm not too busy I'll leave at 3 or 4. I'll still charge out 6-8 hours.

Although if I'm busy there is no quiting time. That's the catch, I've been in the office from 8am until 2 am. Very rare that I would have to do anything like that anymore.

Sounds like my wife... she gets to work 10-11 ish... noonish goes to the store... picks up lunch. goes back to the office, eats while she works, leaves between 4:30-5pm... Quite often, doesn't even go in on Tuesdays

Same catch Mondays it's 8:30 or 9am to when ever the paper is off to the press, really busy she might have to pop in for a few hours on Sat or Sun...

Back in the day.. monday was a 8am to 6 or 7pm affair, thursdays were sometimes 9am thursday to 7pm friday....

She hasn't done that in years.... she's all salary.. so really as long as she's there do work with the sales people and the reporters some time during the day, and the paper gets out on time.. they're really relaxed...

My shift is 4 days on 4 days off. So when I go to work I'm there to do my job. When I come home I relax and don't have to worry about anything.
So 50-50 seems pretty balanced.

Mine sucks shit. I work on a Triple Top Drive Drilling rig. I work 15 twelve hour days straight than get a week off. The job is dirty, long hours and at times very physically demanding and stressful.

I make pretty good money, but its not something I consider as long term. I'm just doing it long enough to pay off all my debt, put some money in the bank, make some investments and move on.

Just get into a servicing company, same shift, less dirty.

Also, the 15 on, 6 off shift is something that I have grown to love. Sure you are on-call for two weeks, but you get a mini-vacation every three weeks! Six days is prefect if you like to camp/hike/fish like I do.

The girlfriend gets testy after about 10 days, but I make sure that I spend lots of time with her as soon as I get home.

Alberta_Daytona
is it getting busy yet? and any suggestions on a good servicing company?

SilverZ24
M to F 8-5pm with 4 weeks holidays and I am never too stressed at work so I would say I have a good balance.

gf knows what she got into when she started dating a military guy, and i know i will catch flake for it, but thats the nature of the beast.

arabian_ryda
i work 12 hours a day. 8am to 8pm monday to friday 10-5pm saturdays and ust to also do 12-5 sundays buut i need a day off. isnt it great owning your own business:D

DeathBy240
I work 55-65 hours a week and that usually includes weekends as well as the Monday to Friday. It's terrible. When I do have spare time it's either relax or do errands and if you relax, the errands just pile up. But I am on my third week of vacation right now so I'm trying not to think about it!
