Coil Overs - Click HERE for Original Thread

Any there people.. just wondering what people's view are on coil overs here in Alberta.. Thinking about putting some ground controls with tokico adjustable's on my Probe.. any one have ground controls??

What are your questions? :)

Ground Control's are nice. They use Eibach spring's which are second to none. Tokico make's an excellent shock that is neck and neck with the KYB AGX's.

Coilover's in Alberta you ask? That depends on how low you want to go. Anything over 1.5" drop on a car will USUALLY require an alignment kit to bring the car back into spec.
The condition of the roads in this part of the world also leave alot to be desired. Anything lower than 1.5" is asking for trouble in my opinion especially if you plan on running a bodykit on your ride.

He wants to know about ride quality and if adjustability actually worth the time, vs regular shocks/struts with lowering springs..

Hmmm, I knwo some show cicuit goers who drivethe car to the show, drop the car to the weeds, then raise it back for the ride home.

Alignment could become a factor with you dialing it back and forth all of the
time.

Non-coilovers are pretty much set, coil-overs gives you room to tinker but you could end up in a bad situation if you're into careful with your dialing up and down.

I have a set of GC coilovers waiting in the wings, but I've heard many reliability issues with the AGX shocks, if you run them lower than 1.25" you risk blowing them, which is whi AGX comes with a lifetime warranty, but not with coil-overs. they weld a disc that is large enough to prevent one from installing a coild over kit.

Any proof of bottoming out or excessive wear by lowering too far will void warranty.

So I'll most likely keep my car at 1" lower.

And since Eibach makes GC springs :) it's all good.

Stay away from kits that don't have seperate ratings from the front and the rear, if they are the same, they are cheap and don't get them.

That's all that comes to mind so far...

The TeinHA coilovers feel excellent on the track, if you use it for street driving and that's all you do then it might not be worth it.

Well, height adjustment is really quite useless, i know very little ppl that acutally do play with the height after they have it set to their daily driving routine. Dampening adjustment i think would be way more beneficial.

Good luck dude

Cool.. thanks for the info.. I also talked to a few people at work that have dealt with ground control coilovers and they said they are pretty good quality.. and Like splinez said right now I will probably be driving my car in the winter so it might be nice to easily adjust it up for then.. Another thing I think would be good about coil overs is I can get the exact drop I want rather then getting say a 1.5" drop and that being to much or not enough.. Now I just need to find some place in the city that can order me this in.. I've been trying to get ahold of matrix for that last few days and they aren't answering their phones. And no one has been there when I have gone in.. Maybe I will try again tomorrow and see what they can get me for prices..

I have GC coilovers, I am happy with them. If you only want to get lowered or a sporty handling, they might be too stiff for you, the normal ones is 380/250 if I remember it correctly, I got custom rate though. HTH.

does it cost any extra to get custom rates?

if so, how much extra did it cost YOU?

REDX2NV
nothing, custom rates are free of charge... why would they? they just swap the springs out..

me=

Ground Controls 400/450 springs rates(aspp opposed to 320/280)
Koni Yellows
Billet koni yellow adapters

Excellent setup, highly reccomended, but i wouldnt go any firmer than that on a street car..

pidsta
Yah, I'm pretty sure I will go with a custom rate.. will give them a call and see what they recommend

Pro Drag
I can get you Ground Control stuff.

BTW your Screen Name make's me laugh, I don't know if it is intentional on your part though.

pidsta
What sort of price can you get me coil overs for.. with adjustable struts???

Looking at Tokico right now as that is what Ground control's website recommended..

Dopey88
I was running the ground control coilovers but i switched to the skunk2 with KYB AGX shocks and the ride is wicked
