St. Albert average wage? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Turb0.ed.v6
Hey guys just a quick question... does anyone know what is the average wage in st.albert is? The reason I'm asking is I'm going back to school this fall and I got offered a job at a liqour store in st.albert. Of coarse it would be rude for me to ask what would my pay would be but I always thought st.albert pays more than here in edmonton? :dunno:

I have no idea what the wage would be, but your not working because you like it, your working to get paid, the employer knows this, it's not a secret. It's not rude to inquire how much they'll be paying for your time, just ask nicely.

flatboy
So you got a job offer but have no idea what they'd pay you. Thats crazy.

Ask how much, it ain't rude it's your business.

You guys really think so? I dont know it just feels wrong... I have never asked an employer for the wage but it is usualy given to me.. I just got a call from the place today and I told them I will get back to them since I dont know if my schedule will workout. Now I realize I should have asked for more details about the job as I gotta wonder is driving all the way there worth it.

bakerrrtsi
so call them back and ask them all the details you want.
If they want you to work for them then they should expect these questions and answer them....and if they have a problem, well maybe not the best place to work lol

I can't imagine taking a job not knowing what it pays...:dunno:

Do you buy a car not knowing how much it costs too?

RangerMan

Well remember I'm not even close to taking the job it was just offered to me today and I told them I'll get back to them. But I guess you guys are right.. I'll call them tomorow once I figure out if it will workout with my schedule and ask that very question.

Thanks for the advice guys!

call and ask every question imaginable.

Also keep in mind in today's job market, everybody is hiring, so your interviewing them just as much as they're interviewing you.

Under 10 bucks an hour. In short, not worth the commute.

Go work at a grocery warehouse for some easy part time money during the school year. Much more flexible hours and usually don't have to do shifts, I know at TGP they said "as long as you show up for your 14 hours a week it doesn't matter what time" so I could go do an 8 hour shift one day and a 6 hour shift another, or work 2 4 hour days and a 6 hour day, or whatever. They are open from 5:30 AM on Sunday untill 5:30 PM on friday, and then 5:30-5:30 on saturday. So if you don't have classes untill late on a Friday you can go to work at 6 at night on thursday after studying/HW, etc

I find st. albert pays the same or slightly less than many places in the city maybe its the labour shortage isnt as bad here with fewer businesses and still alot of kids in school working(ie a majority of kids attend postsecondary and looking for a good part time job with a usefull discount, a liquor store per say) vs people in Edmonton taking their jobs seriously as a primary source of employment and income

I had one employer get a little testy when I was asking about money details. If he's got a problem about honestly talking about money details now, imagine the problems I'm going to have when it's actually time for me to collect my pay. Needless to say, I didn't take the job.

As for st albert wages, while I have no idea what the averages are, I'd think the costs to local kids of getting a job in edmonton or elsewhere carry a high opportunity cost in terms of commuting. Driving for an hour or bus fares to town take a big bite out of lower end wages when you could just walk to work in st albert.

Why would an employer get mad if you ask how much you'll be making? doesn't make sense...now if you were discussing how much you want to be making and he felt uncomfortable or something...maybe :dunno:

just call and ask how much you'll be making...give me the number and I'll ask for you, its really not a big deal.

Flex
Its not a big deal at all, he will have a number of what he wants to pay so just ask. Every interview we do for our store we tell them them wage and benifits.

midnite
ask them strait out.. and don't forget to ask what kind of company vehicle they are supplying you with.
