I dunno if this fits in here or not but oh well....
I'm seeing more and more places starting to sell fireworks, both inside the city and in the surrounding towns, but nobody who I've asked knows the legal issues that surround them.
What are the legal issues related to fireworks? Can I set them off inside city limitis? On my own property? What happens if (they are illegal) I get caught.
Since I'm able to buy them I'd just like if the vendors were a little more educated so I don't get into some serious shit from the cops, if fireworks are illegal that is.
Any and all info would be appreciated. |

You cn set them off wherever as long as you dont get caught. Like I did 3 weeks by the taber campground at 3am. Was interesting avoiding the cops at 3am when you dont wanna turn on your flashlight cause its like a beacon. And there are just wet dirt trails inbetween the trees and bushes you cant see.
Didn't get caught though, had a blast lol.
I know for a fact they are illegal. Cause I almost got busted. I would imagine you would have to have a bunch of property to set them off in your own property as they fly high and wind will carry them many houses down.
I used to set them off on an Acreage all the time. |

Fireworks are federally regulated. Anyone over the age of 18 has the right to own, possess and use fireworks in Canada. The problem comes from city bylaws. Not that they overrule the Federal government, but as with anything else you can't disturb your neighbours or use them irresponsibly.
Firecrackers, however, are illegal in Canada.
If you want more details, check out bill E-17 from Natural Resources ERD. |

So does this mean that any store that says selling fireworks will sell them to you as long as you provide I.D stating you are over 18? You don't need a permit or something to actually buy them?
I was wondering cause i see lots of these flag stores sell fireworks but i figured you'd need a permit to be allowed to set them off but didn't know about purchasing. Anyone got an answer? |

there are lots of places to get them from. roman candle wars are fun
we always set them off in a public park, then leave after, and never had any legal issues come up.. |

ya gas stations everywhere.
Mohawk here in Devon has mass amounts.
Also, there was a semi truck just south of leduc parked at some restaurant on the highway and was selling fireworks for a long time. I bought a bunch there, don't know if he is still there. |

ya i had a good talk with the guy that owns the flag shop on 99street and around 51st ave. he told me to buy larger fireworks you need to go get a permit and a lot of the times they will not give it to you unless its like new years or canada day or something and u have to give them a specific location and time so that your not setting them off buy homes risking fire. But i lied to him and told him i was just going out to my cabin way out of town and no one is out there so he sold me some HUGE fireworks that shot like 100 feet in the air with the big colorful explosion lol it was sweet, we didntt hink it would be to big so we went in the rivervalley off the whitemud (snow valley).
but yah its not illegal if ya dont get caught haha. just try to be smart about what your doing (not that setting them off in the city is that smart anyway haha) and be aware of whats around you. |

| Whether or not you get caught has absolutely no bearing on the legallity of owning/operating fireworks. |

At Crapy Tire, the sign there says - you must show your perment from your local fire detpartment before they will sell you them.
So I'm guessing if you have the paper work it must be ok |
