lame stunting ticket -any grounds here? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I received a retarded ticket the other night.

First off, I am currently trying to pass an out of province inspection and have an intransit registration that allows a-b to the mechanics.

So I pick up the car at night from the shop (left outside for me) after work... there are a few other things that need to be fixed so I need to take it to a friends place to work on it, so you could say he is also my mechanic for legal reasons... anyways he was on whyte which is on the way to his house so I picked him up on the way, which involved circling the block twice.... two cyclist cops pull me over.

Without even asking for ANY information about where i was going or where I was coming from, they frantically appear to start looking for any reason to hit me with the book so to speak.

Right away, this car isn't registered... we're impounding it after the way you were driving... you didn't even signal going around the corner and your loud car is distracting other drivers so here is a $402.00 stunting ticket. He tried to say I was speeding, and I firmly dissagreed, as I wasn't (blow off valve does not = over speed limit), he didn't dispute this so I think he knows I was under the limit.

I explained the registration, which he never even checked or asked about... and as for the signal... it turns out my front signal light was burnt out... I showed this to the cop and he's like... it doesn't matter, you're still getting the ticket.

So I've had enough.. I ask to speak to his supervisor and he comes down. He agrees to not impound the vehicle and that I can tow it home instead... which seems silly to me, I can't even take it to the intended destination.

The other bike cops tell me that if they ever see me driving the car again, no matter what they will impound the car.

Anyways.. so the tow truck shows up and the cop tells him to tow it to my house. Young cool tow truck driver looks at me and him, "well what happened... i thought this was an impound tow" ... then he's like, ahhh.... I can't even tow this thing, it's too low... I'd damage the car guaranteed and i don't think we'd have better luck with a flat deck.

The cops were pissed and had no choice but to let me drive home with the closing comment "well... you have your $400 ticket!"

like wtf... I don't see how this can be stunting. Yes, my car is loud, yes my BOV did go pssst, no I was not speeding, not there was no suqeeling, no burnout, etc...

Maybe an uneccesary noise, or he could have tried unsafe left turn or something like that (which I would dispute), but I don't think that stunting fits at all.

What do you guys think? I've never had to deal with a ticket like this in alberta.

The officer obviously feels the manner you were driving was distracting, and you caught his attention somehow. You can talk to the crown and maybe get a reduction, or take the day off work and go to court and see what happens. There's always a chance you can get some slack but you always risk taking the day off work for nothing.

I would take time off of work and try fighting this for sure as a stunting ticket is very very bad on your insurance record, and your insurance will rape you in the future.

Explain your situation to the crown prosecutor politely, and ask what the officer saw you do, that he felt you were doing to be considered stunting?

Even if your ticket is not thrown out, im willing to bet you will be fined with a lower ticket that will not effect your insurance.

I agree on taking the day off work. If you feel you did nothing wrong then you may as well go and try to fight the ticket. Explain what your situation was that night and hopefully everything works out.

Good Luck:thumbup:

I'm not so sure about the wife and kids. That would take time away from my car.

a coworkers brother works for EPS. he dose have a quota to meet and it gets him a christmas bonus or something. i have been pulled over for no reason and the officer was quick and shaky trying to make up a story on the spot so he could hand me a $280 ticket. 30 seconds earlier he had somone ealse pulled over. i parked my truck around a corner and watched for 30min, he pulled over ever single vehicle that passed within that 30 min. this was on a thursday at 1:30am. im still awaiting trial for this.

this is not true. Your Coworker is full of it...

If you got a ticket fight it, its your right. But do not post non truths.
