Edmonton Z Car Club - Show n' Shine - Click HERE for Original Thread

Inzane
The Edmonton Z Car Club is hosting its annual Show n' Shine this year on Saturday, June 14th at Bonnie Doon Mall.

This show is open to all Nissan/Datsun/Infiniti owners. Participation in the past has usually exceeded ~ 60 cars.

Registration: opens at 10:30am.
Show: Noon to 4:00pm
East parking lot, facing 83st (by the Bank of Montreal, north of the Safeway).
Entrance Fee: $10 per car (half goes to charity, half goes to prizes)

Door prizes, a raffle, plus prizes/trophies for each show category:
Best of Show in:
1) 240Z/260Z/280Z
2) 280ZX
3) 300ZX (Z31)
4) 300ZX (Z32)
5) Non-Z (this is the SR20DE series, 240SX, Spec-Vs, 510s, etc. anything!)
and
6) Best of Show Overall (of the 5 above).

Get there early if you want the best chance at a good spot. We usually try to group cars by model type, where practical. Once you get beyond about Noon or so, I won't be able to guaruntee we'll still have space left.

As well as the usual onslaught of EZCC members at large, Reg Sumaru usually brings a nice assortment of cars every year, and the Calgary Z Club also brings a fair sized group as well (in particular I was told several 350Zs and Spec-Vs are coming up). Now we just need a strong NECC showing to top it all off!

PM me or email me at jason@edmontonzcarclub.com if you have any questions or require more details. Also, I'd appreciate a note from you if you are planning to attend (it helps when we're in the final planning for our space requirement).

Hope to see you there!

Jason

:( it was disappointed..... who was the z32 winner jason? i thought the 3 black Zs (yours, mine and the NOS Z) have the most potential?? this is werid......

The judging was deinfinatly "weird" but what can you do (Aaron ;)). Supposedly the judging in this show is different from most sport compact car shows because it's not a tradtional sport compact car show and shine, a different breed at this show I guess. Oh well, it was fun and we actually had a few NECC members out today which was good to see, but we could always use more.

yup, as i thought his 240 suppost to be the winner for the non-z categery. but the sentra? i dont see anything from that car impress me?!?!?!? i think all the winners should have "SHOW N GO" ?!?!?!!? what happend to that?!??!?!

Darkz
Well, i was tanned for 5 hours and 20 mins in the rain. i feel really great today

Apparently the judging was based on how "clean" or "mint" your car is if you will. Basically if your car was as close to stock as possible, you win. Damn, I should have gone to the dealership to borrow a car, I would have won for sure. ;) I totally understand that concept with the older cars, like the Datsuns, but with the newer vehicles like the Z32's, Z33's, and the non Z class (with the exception to Datsun 510's etc), they should concentrate more on the other good things like Mike mentioned, "show and go". It's not that hard to keep a car that is only a couple of years old looking mint. A different story for a 30 year old daily driver though. I'm not too sure about a pretty much stock Sentra winning the nonZ category, don't get me wrong, its a nice car, and I'm not trying to up myself, but even those Datsun 510's, or even some of the other cars that were there for the nonZ category should have won, because I"m sure the spend some major hours on those older cars to have acheived what they have. Either way I had fun.

Aaron

P.S. I'm sunburned like a son-of-a-bitch.

Why are you sorry? I'm not. Its minor.

I think there was a few camera's kickin around there. I think Andru Zazam had one.

We can only learn with the feedback. Different things are tried from year to year. A few years ago we had "interior" and "engine bay" categories. This year it was just the overall car, mainly exterior. The way the scoring worked is each car started off with a perfect score and then got deductions for whatever. But I was told there were also bonus points given for various things. I wasn't one of the judges so I don't know exactly how it worked.

The Z32 that won its category was almost stock (a stage II or III), but the car was immaculate. Perfect paint, perfect glass, perfect lights, trim, etc. etc.

The situation that Mike and Aaron found themselves in yesterday was exactly how myself, Randy, and Gord (all from the EZCC) felt at the SCCC drags & show last september at Bud Park, except the exact opposite. My car wasn't stock and I was racing too and didn't really care about the show part. But the other two Z32s who were out there for the show got hardly a glance, and didn't stand a chance at hell of winning anything on the show side, and they are were in very fine condition.

Its impossible to keep everyone happy. But I guess what might have to happen in future years is to have a further breakdown in categories, maybe a "stock" category and a "modified" category, or something like that.
:dunno:

I knew we couldn't make everyone happy which is why I was kinda telling people in an earlier thread last week to try not to get too hung up on the actual judging aspect of it.

Anyways, enough about that.

Overall, I'd say yesterday kicked ass! We had pretty close to our record attendence. I didn't hear what our official registred numbers were yet, but from my count, plus a few that came early and left early, or ones that showed up late, we easily had 70 cars (or more) in attendance. That's awesome guys!

I hope everyone had fun and got a chance to meet some the people. The cars and the people are definately the highlights of these kind of events.

I will post some pics myself when I get them hosted.

Thanks everyone who made the effort to come out and support our show!

P.S. I'm sunburned like a son-of-a-bitch.

Pale white boy with no sunscreen, eh? B)

hehe... I learned that the hard way. I got a hell of a sunburn at my very first Z car show years ago.

Get some of that aloe vera (the green gel stuff) for your burns. Works great.

SRBURG13
Yeah, I just went to the show thinking it was like the rest of the shows, you know, a "real" car show, ;), where points were awarded for efforts and uniqueness etc etc. If I would have known how they judged, I would have put in the old motor, the stock wheels, tint off, and raised the car back up, oh yeah, and put the stock exhaust back on. But then again, I noticed that the crowd/members/judges weren't anywhere near my age, and I think that people that age don't really like modded cars. Maybe I'm just stereotyping.

Actually one of the "Non-Z" judges was a "young" guy, I forget his name but he's the guy that owned the 240SX that perished at Eurasia Auto.

I don't think you need to remove all your mods to score better Aaron. That's silly. But ask yourself how good YOUR paint and trim and mirrors, etc. was. I didn't look too closely at your car, but don't you think based on the general pattern that maybe that's where you might've gotten docked some points a bit?

Like I said yesterday I haven't seen your score sheet yet (or mine for that matter), but I'll let you know if/when I see it. I doubt it says deductions for modifications or anything like that.

I heard that I scored reasonably well in my category, from talking to one of the Z32 judges at dinner, maybe only two or three deductions. I can bet I can guess without looking where I got them... my paint and trim and/or glass! D'oh! Oh well.

SRBURG13
Well I know I don't need to take the mods off. I was just messin around. But I find this weird, since I just had the car painted in October. But hey, who cares, its over now, cause I don't.

i cant believe the red sentra won non-z, wtf were those judges smoking, i want some of that.
if i had known it was going to be like that, i would have broken out my parent's tempo, slapped "nismo" on the rear end, painted a 'z' on my engine block and entered THAT, lol.

edit: i re-read my post and it may sound harsh, but i'm merely commenting for fun. i guess i missed the part about this being an event for geriatrics...then agani hearing that geezer pumping "ABBA" on the way in should have been the tip off.

edit edit: i meant silver, i guess i had the red z in mind and that somehow slipped in

It was the silver Spec-V that won Non-Z. Screenname "Bono" here on v8less.

"Geriatrics", "Geezer"?? And that's the EDIT of your post to sound less harsh? :wtf:

Try and have some class for f@ck's sake!

SRBURG13
Wow, pretty harsh for your first post on here. They aren't ALL that old. Sorry Jason, I had to laugh though. Hehe.

Yeah.. hehe B)

I just hate stereotypes, that's all. And if some of the haters took a chance to meet some of the old "geezers" you'd find that there's a lot of nice people there, and a lot of passion for the cars regardless of people's age, and a lot of knowledge too. There's no reason why we can't all mingle and coexist on the car scene.

TylerH
I agree, the people who did talk with us were really nice and willing to share all kinds of information. It was a good day, except for the rain at the end

SRBURG13
Tyler said it exactly.

Zazam
Ditto, Aaron I had fun too, but I could have done without the un-necessary "car wash" at the end of the day. But overall it was a good time :D
