well comming home today on 99th street ( wtf is up with this cock sucker of a street) it took me 30mins to drive 6 blocks... what genious city planner decided to rip this street up the week that ever body is going back to school/work why not do this during the middle of summer when the traffic is a little less congested.
now not only do you have to deal with this 99th backlogged all the way to hell you also have to deal with those retard drivers who use the center turn lane (ya the lane you only use to turn left off 99th) as there own personal "go fast lane". some handitard in a truck thought he could go down this lane untill he met someone trying to use this lane as it was intended (to turn left) and then attempted to merge back into the inside lane from which he came. i was about to take his "balls" (btw these balls hanging off your truck are really really gay how did they ever catch on) and leave some nut sack shaped impressions into his skull.
But what really pissed me off was the overpass over whitemud; they have ripped up all the pavement and they have those manhole covers atleast 6-7 inches off the ground in the left lane. now i saw they were there and drove around them (mind you i had to change lanes in the middle of the intersection :dunno: ) but i was thinkin if someone with a lowered car such as myself where to actually drive over them would you get any compensation for the damage that would most likely insue (im thinking not). these car trashing peices of joy would definately rip the motor out of any normal car, the truck that went in front of me almost lost his rear diferential. wtf is the deal with this is there no one with the insight that having 6" of metal sticking out the the road is bad?
to all those who havent experianced the mind-boggeling gong show that is 99th street dont worry, there is still time, construction isnt complete untill the 16th. lucky for me ill be steering clear of the fuckfest and will now use 97th :D |

| 97 street is a fucken gong show too. so many retards on that road. i've seen soooooo many accidents onthat road its not even funny and a lot of them are pretty bad too. ya right now 99, 97, 34, 23, and ellerslie are all no go. for fuck sackes. |
|
|
| Ayeso |
| Oh man I was lucky enough to experience this today as well, everyone turning around and shit in the middle lane, not to mention the gongshow that is gateway as well right now... |

when i saw the congestion on 99th on my way home i was lucky enough to take the right turn into what used to be cinema city 12 and skip over to 97th to get to 51ave.
i cant believe that the city would take 2 arterial roads damn near out of commission at this busy time of year. especialy on a road where if there is one slow moving car, or an accident it completely backs up the road. |

And then Sept 14th - 28th, they're going to completely close one direction of 99th st and only have 1 lane open the other way between 34ave and Whitemud. That's for the first week.
Then, for the second week, they're going to reverse which direction is closed and the other having one lane open. I can't remember if they're going to completely close northbound or southbound first. So, 99th street is going to get even worse for the next couple of weeks. |

| How else do you expect them to fix roads? Do you think these roads magically fix themselves? Get real man.. |

They never said "Don't fix the roads" their just pointing out how the city is choosing to fix them at the worst times. Should of done it when everyone was out on holidays and not going back to school/work. |

They've been fixing roads like crazy all summer, all crews running 50-66 hour weeks |

| Yeah, not main ones. All of the sudden they start fixing all the main roads and start doing some fucked up detours...and fixing them too! like Malaria said. Seems kinda messed... like all these road fixing projects started, now their trying to finish asap before some big ass snowfalls come. |

170 st, stony plain road (downtown portion), 156st, 118ave, etc. There were lots of main roads being worked on this summer, on top of repairs on SPR (highway section), Whitemud, Yellowhead and Anthony Henday. |

Phew, atleast they got those done.
Because if they were still working on those.. Now.
We would be up the ass with roads being backed up.
Ummm those repairs weren't that big. I didn't see much backing up at all, and they we're not all being worked on simulteniously. |

156th and 170th were :p
The tail end of the 170st project coincided with the start of the 156st project.
170st work caused a TON of backing up and it overflowed traffic on both 178st and 156st, which sucked alot.
156st isn't pretty right now either. |

man Im workin is estevan Sk right now and their main street is under construction for about 2 blocks its crazy. it now takes me 5 min instead of 4 to get from one end of the town to the other with the detour. this is f**kin up my schedule bad, trying to get up earlier to make it to work.
lol, sometime I think moving to a small town like this might not be all that bad |

The biggest problem is like someone said above. Don't fuckin touch the detours when you wanna rip u pa main busy road.
N -> S and vice versa ALL major roads are under consutrction. But what more would be expect from this city. There's zero logic or strategy in anything they do.
City of champions my ass. |

| I don't mind when 1 street is completely torn up. Fine, it has to be done, and I understand that. But is it just me or do they do them in groups? Seems every 2nd or 3rd week every possible route I could take to get home is being worked on. So it takes an hour or more no matter how I try to drive it. I realize that we all complain about potholes and than also complain when roads get closed...but seriously. In all the cities I've lived in I've never seen roads in such bad shape AND roads that had so much construction on them. Is Edmonton building roads like they did in 1920 or something using some old, antiquated technology that just doesn't stand up to todays traffic loads or.....do they just not know what they're doing? |

One word: Climate.
Edmonton has one of the largest temperature ranges out of any city in the world. They can't build roads like they do in florida because it gets too cold here. They can't make them like they do in Alaska because it gets too warm here. The biggest problem we face on the roads is frost. That's what causes the cracks, heaves and potholes. |

| If your anywhere near 91st/99th and in between argyll and 51st ave you don't stand a chanve moving anywhere fast. Especially if you live in the south or west end of the city. I can't stand sitting in traffic after working all day. |

In my opinion, Winnipeg has hotter summers and colder winters. |

99st is hell.! I absolutely hate 99st.. Its in my commute to and from work.. 51ave to 81 ave, 30 blocks of pot hole and bad driver hell.
The drive home is worse too, not only do you have semi trucks but you have the average commuter that is probably so stressed/exhausted from their day that they could care less about the roads.
Accidents are expected and even a coworker was rear ended 3 weeks ago. I just know someone is going to hit me in the near future. 3 car pileups on 51ave are as common as hot blondes on whtye ave.
I just wish everyone would leave space between the car in front of them, use signal lights, don't run late yellows (I almost got creamed by a F150 diesel on 91st when I was turning left, I stopped because I knew he wasn't going to, black smoke usually means heavy accell. Probably would have killed me....
Edmonton streets suck, The only time they are good is at 2:00 am, but then you 'll get pulled over by the cops just for being out at that time. |
