Anyone else on here "blessed" with a d-link WBR-2310?
Mine's been a pain since I got it a few weeks ago.
first issue:
I couldn't get it to allow me into the admin screen sometimes because as soon as I typed the IP address of the router and pushed "enter" the router would reboot repeatedly until i closed my browser. It didn't matter if I used IE or firefox. It also didn't seem to matter which of my computers i was using, as it always happened to more than one computer on my network of 6. eventually I'd find a computer that can access it, but it was never the same one. sometimes my laptop on wireless was the one that would work, sometimes it was my main desktop, sometimes it would be my girlfriends' machine. I upgraded the firmware from 1.02 to 1.04. That seemed to work, but it took a really long time before the router came back online(3-4 minutes). Now i haven't had that particular problem happen since...
Second issue:
Now all of the computers connected to my router are being disconnected from MSN at random intervals from <1 minute to 15 minutes or more. the router seems to be rebooting by itself without me even typing in anything at all, because all the XP machines are showing "network cable disconnected" at the random intervals. I've been taking screenshots of the status screen and noting that the data is always only a efw minutes old regarding starting the wireless, and obtaining an IP address from shaw.
I'd like to know if anyone else on here has this same router and if it's doing any of these symptoms to you. |

I don't know my model number but my d-link and many of my friends d-link routers keep crapping out on them while playing xbox live.
Usually a switch to a linksys fixes the problem. |

Heh I normally switch people from Linksys to Dlink to fix problems. I have a Di-604 that just started to act up after 3yrs od having it, I have a gamerlounge now. I've installed countless DI-624's, 524's, 504s, and 604's, and a the odd 700series.
I found linksys went to shit when cisco bought them, I thought linksys stuff woulda got better, but nope.
On topic, try a hard reset of your router see if that helps, if not drive flash up date, if that doesn't help it's possible you got a dud. |

| I had a dlink 713p for years and it finally died, so I replaced it with this one i have now... I think i picked the wrong model because I've been reading on the net about it since I posted on here and there seem to be lots of people that are having the router re-setting frequently and loosing settings and having msn on/off and all that good stuff that's happening here. I'll be returning it... for what i don't know. probably a WRT-L if i can find one. |

| I've noticed odd issues too.. I had always been a linksys guy, then it switched to cisco and had 2 horrible routers in a row, so I went to dlink, never had a problem, but I know tons of people with dlink issues, and tons with linksys issues, its just some are poorly designed and others arent. I bought another linksys and I've never had a problem with it, its rock solid, very rarely drops wireless connections and hasn't had many major issues, I also use a dlink wired router and its stable as well, so just do a bit of research before buying one, it can usually save much grief as you can see which models are prone to issues. |

| one of the techs at my work has a wbr-2310 and he swears by it, tons of range and super stable, now my manager on the other hand says their crap and told me to stay away. in my quest for a stable router i took an old p3 600 and loaded smoothwall and hooked it up to a switch. from the switch the other computers can connect with wires, but i also took my old dlink router and hooked it to the switch as an access point and i havent looked back, its rock solid i havent had to reset it since i loaded it. |

It's rarely hardware related on things. DLink and Linksys both make flaky firmware. Cisco is rock solid, but unless you're a CCNA can be insane to try and configure.
So..I found the middle ground. Linksys with 3rd-party firmware. Worth checking out. |

I just brought home a WRT54GL . I'm gonna use the stock firmware for now just because my family seemed to be about to commit suicide because of not being able to use MSN for 2 days. after they settle down, ill play with it some more.....
I'm convinced the dlink hardware has failed, by noon today, it was resetting every 2 minutes, and was basically unuseable. I even put the old firmware back on it, and it only barely stayed on long enough to take the downgrade. after that it was same'ol |

Take it back.
Go buy a Gamers Lounge. I know it's a D-link.. But I went through the same kind of issues with my last D-link, it started acting funny like your's Hopped on google and searched for a popular gaming router and all the hits took me to the GamersLounge.. I don't have the wireless version of it as I have my own homebuilt AP but I can tell you that everything has worked flawlessly with it for a year now.
Very simple to configure, everything works as advertised and a decent warranty.
Game Fuel works. I can give priority to movies/games/bit torrent on the network. I can stream movies from my media box to any machine and not have an effect on the ping my husband gets in 2142 (which is somehow important... )
It has DMZ which has come in handy a couple of times.
Nice router!
*EDIT*
Did I mention it was easy to configure? Like you're average six year old could figure it out... |

I don't like the Menu as much on the GamerLounge compared to the 524/624 series. Could be that damn animation across the top. Most times when I'm playing with the setting's it's from off site through termianl services. Also the gamerlounge likes to force an IP refresh every reboot. My old 604 I went 2yrs on Telus DHCP with the same IP address, my Gamerlounge I've been through 7 in 2 months. (the wife an I remote home via RDP, VNC, and Secure Telnet.. so that is important)
But it does seem to be a good router. I have a Dlink wireless security cam running 30fps recording to my file server 24/7 and I notice to network speed degredation.. I'm tempted to plug in the second camera and see how it goes... |

Quick fix. I assume you have a linux box in there somewhere, set up an hourly cron task to run a script that wgets www.whatismyip.com, extracts the IP listed, compares it to a file containing your old IP, and if they're different shoot you an e-mail. |

OR use the damn ddns :P
The prob is I check my e-mail through the Terminal Services heh. It's how I'm posting right now...
I have webmail.. but it's ugh... we're replacing the whole web/mail server and getting better mail system and webmail. |

Or, just e-mail it to a gmail account. Obviously if you run your own mailserver, you can't send your mail to that or you'd have to guess the right IP to read it. I use gmail.
ddns sucks balls. Didn't work right for me. |

My e-mail server is offsite(at my wife's work) It's a linux box on a static IP :P
All the workstations are at home on a Dynamic account... tempting to switch accounts, but if I do, Telus may start charging me for going over my monthly bandwidth quota... |

I wouldn't bother. Like I said, simple script and it's all tickity-boo. |
